I have a Dana 30 narrow-track w/ drums in my jeep.
I have a Dana 30 narrow-track w/ disks.

I want to convert the drum 30 to disk (it has the right gearing and locker already).

I have a spare set of axle shafts for the drum 30 that I have been carying w/ me.

Are the outer axle shafts the same lenght on a drum brake 30 as a disk brake 30??????

I have heard yes and no

If they are different, how would you go about the conversion?

And please don't tell me to get a different axle.

YEP!

I tossed the disc outers from an '80 CJ onto my '76 that had drums and used the same shafts, nooooo problem.

Oh, and get a different axle :flipoff2:

The drum brake 30 could have different spindles. Just use the spindles off of the disk brake 30 and you will have no problems.

Are you swapping the 6 bolt caliper stands with the thick rotors or are you swapping the 2 bolt calipers that bolt to the knuckle with 7/8" thick rotors?

The spindles are different, but that doesn't matter. The outer shafts are different, but they'll work. The seals aren't the same, so watch water crossings. The drum brake shafts, both inner and outer, neck down more than the disk shafts, so those later shafts are better.
To convert the drum 30 to disk, you'll need to change from the knuckles out, as the knuckles on the dick axle are notched for caliper clearance.
