I'll be honest, I havent touched or even looked at my rig in almost a months time. I really dont have the time or the energy any more. And by the time I get home, Im so hot and tired I jump in the pool. But this weekend was different. I went to the shop and grabbed some scrap steel for my rear bumper (3"O.D. x 0.375). Got the rear d/shaft pulled and got measurments for the new shafts, which hopefully will get dropped at the shop tomorrow. Was gonna tear into and re-seal the "new" D-20 that I got from Sully, but its a greasy pig, so I need to pressure wash it at work tomorrow. Maybe I can get something done this week.

well went home this weekend, finally found where i had a bad wire...and got the SBC 305 wired up, and fired...but it took me a while, being my first time to get it timed...and i ran out of time. But it has been explained to me why it wouldn't turnover and run...so i guess whenever i get a chance to get my scout down to me or go back up ill be able to figure it out and hopefully have it running. Then from there i need to put the tcase back on and bolt up the driveshafts...and hopefully i will have a running rig again...been a long time.

Well i did some trading and ended up with a ton of parts. I have a complete 3/4 ton chevy that is beat to hell but runs good and has a 44 front and 14 bolt rear with 4.56 gears a 350/sm465 and a 205. I also got a chassis with a dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear with 3.73 gears and a 205 transmission. I'm stoked to get my springover started. I can't decide whether to use the 60 with the 3.73 gears or the 44 with the 4.56 gears. I already have a flattop knuckle machined drilled and tapped for a 44 but I hear hi steer on a 60 is a piece of cake. I'm hoping I can use the springs for the springover also so I don't have to use these 4 inch skyjacker springs. I only want to run 37's and with my tubs and trimming a springover should be enough. Any opinions?

Went through my storage unit and pulled out a bunch of crap I will never use again (AMC V8 stuff primarily). Going to sell it to a guy in New Hampshire. Pulled out some mounted hummer tires/rims to disassemble, and started parting out an engine in the yard that pictureframed a couple years ago. When I took the intake off, I knew it wasn't worth going any deeper, as half the pushrods were busted like chiclets. Taking the whole thing to the metal recycler next week.

Looked at the SII and wondered how I was goiing to fix the rotted out floorboards, convert it LP, swap in my 1 ton axles, get the 727 reverse to work (any ideas?), and have functional headlights/turn signals..... got depressed & had a  :D

Seems like things never get done, eh?

Went to 2 PNP's for the sale, got a Ramsey elec worm gear winch from a tow truck for 25, a exhaust for bros truck for $20, fender for bros car $15, 4 tires almost brand new for my honda for $30, and a pair of Warn premium 60 lockouts I forgot to pull out of my tool bag :D

Oh and I picked up a smokin hot blond just over half my age Sat night and told her about my Scout, but I don't think she really cared  but Im still smilin today :grinpimp:

Before you start up on me she was way over age, Im just an old bastard

Hmm.. on Sunday I started my race Scout II.. haven't done that since Memorial Day.. broke the throttle cable on it in the process, so I wound up with a ratchet strap hooked to the carb.. :D

Drove it around the field once or twice.. still don't have reverse.. then.. WASHED IT.

After washin' it, I started it a second time, made another lap, then pulled it in front of the shop to let it dry.

Need to drain the D20 this week while it's still outside, and look it over to see if it needs a second round of washing before I pull it inside and R&R the 727.. and throttle cable.

On Saturday I took the Travelette for a spin into town and loaded up another batch of equipment.. got the tranny jack, drill press, and a few bins of other crap moved out, but not the rollaway yet.

Got the air compressor and powder-coating oven in place, and plugged in the IH  fridge, too.

(That's my new 727 still in the cardboard box on the floor..)

Hung the last section of pegboard and another section of shelving..

Started cleaning things up to get serious about moving my crap. Now that the "oven/compressor/fridge" corner is done, I've moved on to the next quadrant.. :D

Oh.. and I've been a little preoccupied with the "County", too.. seems someone thinks my Scouts are "junk".. :mad3:

Wait until whichever bastid turned me in finds out I have a LOT more that I haven't hauled out to my place yet, and none of them meet the legal definition of "junk"

Repaired the gear oil leak on my RR side axle. The splindle was loose because 3 bolts where stripped out. The left side did that a year ago and I fixed that one good. Redrilled the spindle and installed 10, 1/2 "studs in the knuckle for the spindle to bolt to. :D That side doesn't come loose. Right side is next after this Labor day trip to Farmington is over. :)

I lenghtened the rear frame on the scout, then i hung the rear springs (bronco rear leafs lightened to a 4 pack) i ended up using a 6" shackle, but it flexes real nice. then i went to the recyclers and picked apart a chebby van, i got the brake master cylinder, booster and proportioning valve. i also got the steering column, and the steering box, along with the radiator and shroud, and the running 350/turbo350 combo for $180. brought that home and hooked the 350 to my 465/205 combo and slid it into the scout for a test fit. it looks like it will fit just right after i moce the body back 6". that comes tomorrow.

im going to fab up some motor mounts and tranny/xcase mounts, then pull it all out and put in a hydro clutch set up and cam the 350. then start on my brakes and pluming all that, then steering.........then...........

I wrote this up, to go with the other two i sent before.

I meant to send a couple of these, but procrastinated.

The hacksaw I cut the other side with and old blade
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0787.jpg

Old blades suck
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0788.jpg

Started using this POS. it started smoking after a few moments. what's
surprising is it still is working. it's just 1 on, 10 off.
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0789.jpg

grabbed the circular saw. it worked fine, cept there is no way to hold the
spindle while you tighten the nut. so i ended up fubaring my blade 90% of
the way through
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0790.jpg

the cut:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0791.jpg
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0792.jpg

finished it with a new hacksaw blade:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0793.jpg

the cut:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0794.jpg

looks to be 1 & 9/16ths. i'll of course need to add in the amount in the
knuckle, but i didn't cut too long (i cut as close as the circ saw would
allow)
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0795.jpg

ready to grind:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0796.jpg

tried to unbend the draglink, but that table isn't bolted down, I think while
i'm working on it, i'm gonna grab some square tube and a couple bolts. not
street safe, but until i do the engine swap, all i need to do is 180 degree
turns
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/19aug2004/img_0798.jpg

my "assistant"
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/28aug2004/img_0803.jpg

got my neighbor to torch the tube:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/28aug2004/img_0816.jpg

Just a bit long still:
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/28aug2004/img_0817.jpg

Finally! a crack!
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~nqs/images/camera/28aug2004/img_0818.jpg

I'm gonna have Bob torch it again, but gotta wait till he gets home from
driving truck. no need to grind anymore than i have to.

I have a dual fuel setup from an IH pickup if you are interested. PM me.

I mounted tow hooks to the front of my SII. I kinda wonder how long they'll last. I welded the cracks in my frame the best I could. They were along the rear spring hangar. I got the sides good, but the seam didn't turn out so well. Other than that, I didn't do anything. Oh, I did get a used Hi-Lift for free. works, but needs attention.

WTF were you asking them to do?????

That's nuts dude. You could have a complete custom shaft made for that kind of money, and still have some left over to hire some hookers to pose with it. (You know, since I figured it's never gonna make it onto your Scout and all.... :flipoff2: )

Gawdam! You cant even wait till Im logged off to talk $hit! :flipoff2:

I need the spline and slip joint replaced on both old ones(about 1/8" of slop in the teeth), with longer splines and I wanted them to cut down the J/Y shaft I found. Then I asked about just doing the rear. $235.00. Im gonna call around to some of the other shop in town, but I would like to get this done so I can actuallly wheel this thing again
