i have a 99 vortec 350 in my jeep and just swapped in a th400 auto tranny. my question is where on the 350 is a good place to tie into vacume for the th400? i have looked and i can not find a source. anything that uses vacume has a sensor, etc that specifically fits that hole and i can not find a plugged source anywhere. am i missing something or if not what should i do? i know there has to be an easy fix for this but i'm not seeing it. little help!!!thanks

i dumped the 4L80E because i spent $1500 just trying to get the thing figured out. i got sick of wasting time and $$$ so i pulled it and got a th400/208 combo. the 208 came off and i already had the 32 spline input shft for my d300 so that is what i have now. it is in and all i need to tranny cooler lines and i need to find a vacume source. i am getting ready to go out and play with it some more.

well that would be great if i had a place to put it. there are no vacume lines that i can find on this motor what so ever.

I am still tryin to finish this thing. Went and got 38x12.50 SXs, no way to make them fit with the 2" body and 4"+ suspension I have now (plus my rear springs jus didnt flex, they were 6" lift Skyjackers), took them out, put some 63" Chevys in and now workin on the front. I am gonna move the shackles to the front so I dont have so much firewall to tire contact (had that with 35s!!!), and moving the axle forward 2", with some homeade springs, super flexy. I also am planning on hacking my top off, jus wanna put the cage bars in so I can jus buy a simple bikini for now, and a C channel to mount the front in. This is all on Toy axles, should be BIRFIELD fun!!!!

Just some thoughts here, and I am assumeing a 5.3 Gen III motor.

First you are right about the intake being the plastic composite, so DON'T just tap a hole in the side for vac.

You first could try the into the MAP sensor, I believe that is mainfold vacuum. I don't think it will affect the sensor operation.

Otherwise if all else fails I believe there was a line for the brake powerbooster, you could tie in there, but depending on model of donor vehicle it may have had hydroboost and no vacuumbooster for brakes.

Only other option is that 700R4 didn't have vaccum, used TV cable, or look again at 4l80E. I can't see why that trans couldn't be made to work. I am guessing VSS, but could research further.

it is not the 5.3L it is a 5.7L 350 from a 99 1ton dually. the map sensor is a no go. it pluged directly into the manifold.

this 1ton used hydro-boost so no go on the brake power booster either.

we don't even want to talk 4L80E!! that is what i have been trying to run but gave up after mucho $$$ and couldn't get it to shift correctly. it was too long anyway.

well i did find a source. the pcv valve ont eh d/side of the motor was hooked to a little canister. i did manage to find a t fitting that worked and now the 400 shifts great!!! :D

i'm almost ready to wheel her again. exhaust and a few other loose ends and she'll be ready.

You have a couple choices for a vacuum source. One is on the top of the manifold behind the injectors plug you will see a plastic plug. This is where the fitting for vacuum brakes go so you can get this fitting at the dealer. Your other option is teeing into the fitting for the PCV valve, this is on the top left side of the engine about half way back. The line goes to the left valve cover with the PCV valve. Astro vans used the4.3 and had that same fitting with an extra vacuum port on it which should work for you. Please feel free to ask anymore question you have. I have lots of Votrec experience and I just put Vortec 5.7 in a 1999 all wheel drive Astro van.. Brett
