I broke a motor mount the other day and put the fan into the radiator. It is a 73 Scout with 345 auto. Going to have to replace the fan, so I was thinking about putting on an electric fan. I was looking at a single 16" - 10 blade fan and wondering if it would work, as in pulling enough air through to keep things cool. Cannot afford dual fan set. If the 16" will not work, I will just go back to a stock set up.

I would seriously look into a Ford Taurus Fan. They kick ass and are fairly cheap in the bone yards. Do a search on the board for "electric fan" or "taurus" there is a good post by billavista but I can not find it now.
I installed one on my scout and it dropped my trail temps by 60 degrees and road temps by 40 degrees.

It's a two speed electric fan from a ford taurus. Do a search!!!

Very little will outperform a engine driven mechanical fan. Fix the motor mount, add a bolt or piece of chain for piece of mind if you think you are going to break it again (or get some aftermarket motor mounts, darn neer impossible to break) to keep the fan out of the rad.
Besides, I'm to cheap to pay $$ for an aftermarket elsectric fan with out good reason. The taurus option is nice, but around here hard to find. Lots of Taurus' in the PnP... but they are all missing their fans

Yes 240 degrees would be right. That was on the trail. It topped out about 260 on hot days on the road. Well that was all the higher the autometer gauge would read. Just a tad hot for a SBC.

Changing a fuel filter on my wife's minivan today I noticed her fan might also be a good candidate. It's a thin, large fan (forgot to measure diameter), two speed, looks like it might actually take up less room than a Taurus fan, and I'm thinking that since a minivan might be designed to haul just a little more weight than a small family sedan, perhaps it'll cool a little better too. It's a '95 Mercury Villager with a 3.0 V6 BTW.
So anyway, what other than fan diameter would clue me in to if this fan pulls more air than a Taurus fan? That is, without me pulling out a CFM hood. Another plentiful pick-a-part couldn't be a bad thing, since it seems every hot rodder and his brother has picked up on (and picked out) the Taurus fan.
