I have a chance to pick up a very cheap 84 vette TBI 350, (for an engine swap for me) but the 700R4 tranny starts to slip when you start to 'get on it' at highway speeds. Anyone know what this could be, or especially $$$ amount to get the tranny fixed

Besides missing the obvious, (t/c), is the vette 2wd 700r4 the same as the 4wd?

your tranny is shot (unless theres no fluid in it)no that tranny is not the same as a 4 wheel drive tranny...a rebuild is right around $700 but that was for a 4wd.....good luck

What would the specific problem be with the tranny? When it's slipping what is actually going on?

The clutches are worn or there is not enough pressure to hold, probably due to lack of fluid. Pretty simple.
