: Master cyl/ booster setup w/ 1 ton axles?
haggard 09-01-2004, 09:45 AM I'm currently starting a scout II truggie project and aquired a front 60/ rear 14 bolt combo to run in it. I'm new to binders and wanted to know if the stock 1980 scout II master/booster would handle single piston calipers front and rear on these axles. i plan to convert the 14 bolt to discs.. if not, what is easiest to swap in? will a bigger master bolt up to the stock booster? or am i better off planning on going to a totally custom setup? TIA.
BAD JONNY 09-01-2004, 01:29 PM I would run it and see if it is a good feel for you. I have done almost all types of conversions, manual master(no booster) and 4 wheel disks, stops on a dime. stock toyota , added rear disks, works perfect. The best way is to feel it out. You will probibly like it just adding disks. I plan on doing the same swap into my 68' 800. :D Let us know how it works.
BamaScout 09-01-2004, 04:18 PM I'm curious to see what works out for you also. I will be running 60's front and rear with disc brakes. I've heard that hydraboost is a bad idea because it relys on your power steering pump.

I am very happy with my eldorado hydroboost setup
BAD JONNY 09-01-2004, 09:40 PM I would use hydraboost if I wasn't running hydraulic steering.Too much volume going to the steering. HB is a very good setup, not having to worry about loss of vacuum is always a plus. :D and for us with lumpy cams and no vacuum, it's a must :D
haggard 09-02-2004, 06:35 AM i'm opting not to run hydroboost, I'm going to be running hydro assist steering, and the stress on the steering box is not something i want to worry about. We'll see how it works out, i also have to make rear cutting brakes work too, so i'm going to need a decent amount of brake pressure.
4xFreak 09-02-2004, 11:57 AM You may want to add a adjustable proportioning valve. The rear discs on my chevy are real nice, but they lock up real easy if you arent careful. It may not be an issue on a rock crawler though. Just try it and see.
'71 800B 09-08-2004, 06:23 PM what vehicle were you using manual brakes on with four disc's? I am working on my '71 800B and havent put much thought into the master cylinder yet. I am going to run a 14 bolt on the rear with 10.5 inch drums for now and a HD 44 up front. I dont think the stock master cylinder will push enough volume.anybody????

my breaks work good if not better than before (when I had dana 44's) I think with the bigger breaks you will stop better(at least I do)

I see, you have a vacume booster, I do not. I dont think my stock master cylinder will put out enough volume. of course, I will give it a try before looking for something else. And then maybe with an adjustable proportioning valve it might just work. Thanks
