I am gettin ready to buy some tires pretty soon and have a dilema. I really want some boggers, but I want a bigger tire like the 38.5's. Which one would you guys put on your rig, or better yet my rig?

There is lots of dirt, mud, and some rocks around here, so I was leaning more towards the boggers. Just wish they made a 38.5 bogger!

What are you running for tires now? The Boggers I run now hook up so well my1.3 can hardly turn them. I have 5.29's and a 4/1, not enough mojo...:)

Yeah well the 38.5x11.0 dont count because they are too fucking skinny!! I have 5.29 with the 4.89 t-case gears, but not enough vroom vroom for my likings, but it will do for now!

I have been thinking hard about it and I think I will go with the 37" boggs. They are just too damm awesome and the 38.5's might be stretching it right now with the 1.3! Now I just got to wait for the IRS to puy up.
I am thinking about getting the Rockstomper beadlocks, but was wondering what you guys are happy running with or what you would run with if you could as far as beadlocks go?

It is my experience that losing beads isn't a Major issue in a Samurai, unless you run aluminum wheels.

I bought my beadlocks used for Cheep - otherwise, I'd have spent that money elsewhere.

I run MRT's and like 'em. I only run 33's on them, but they do good. I have 2 inch back-spaing on mine. They sure are cool, but be ready to pay for it (about $150 per wheel)! ~Steve

I like the MRT's but I also like the Trailready's, but $200 a rim is a bit much! Maybe the $ will go elsewhere cause I too have heard that the sammy's don't loose beads easily cause of their light weight.

Actually, the 38.5x11 is a favorite of mud racers. Ther tread is deeper than any other bogger, and they bite like a mutha.

I take it you've never seen one in person.

BUt if you're running sand or rocks, a wider tire would definitely come in handy on ocassion. I know I will be running Boggers (37x13 or 38x11) when I get into building my Sam/Toy hybrid.

We need a stinkin' 38x14.50 bogger as badly as we need an affordble 37" MT/R.

Also, Interco is supposedly working on a 42 inch Bogger, but that is neither here nor there, so...

Hey Rudezuk what do your 37's measure at say 10-15 psi? Yota-san I have never seen one in person, but it wouldn't matter if I did cause other than for mud purposes only I don't find a purpose for pizza-cutters, but that's just me!

i have to ask what your wheel base is? if you are wanting to go to 38.5s and are still in the 80 to 90 in wheeel base i would say forget it. all you will do is look at the sky, i am going to 38s on mine but its getting a 30 in. strech job. hell i have 33s on a 81 in. wheelbase and it stands up way to much. its fine in the mud but for big rock ledges it sucks. what size tire are you running now? mike

That's what I figured you'd say, but you mentioned mud, so I figured I mention it. If you do a bunch of mud and not much else, the tire makes sense.

But you don't - so I digress.

Oh, and I'm trusting a 4x4 mag's opinion on a tire here  but 4WOR said they had a 37" bogger mounted on I think a 15x10 and it was 35.4" high. 37 my ass

BTW - the 38.5 SX doesn't work in mud as well as the non-SX 38" TSL. The tire is very round in profile - becuase it's so tall and narrow with that stiff carcass, I suppose. It looks very round from the front, so the sidewall lugs don't have as much bite and the center tread wears faster. I don't think a samurai has the weight to 'fix' this problem, either. But the 38x12.50 TSL doesn't seem to have this problem. Just my opinion.

The 14.50 width seems to be better but that's a hell of a lot of rubber. Under a toyota, a 38x12.50 is as large as I would think about going. I dunno about a sammy.

My wheelbase is at 98 inches right now. I pulled the front out 12" and the rear back 7", so I dont think I would be seeing too much sky w/the 38.5's, but I am for sure gonna get the boggers! I do see a decent amount of mud and snow and not as many rocks. THe boggers rule in my opinion anyways.

I'm going to pick up a set of Champion Bead Locks hear in the next month or so, there *Bling *Bling...

I have no choice however, can't keep the tires on the rims. I run em at 6psi.

Thats a nice choice fatty! What are you gettin them for and from who? $255 is quite a bit for me right now. I'm just trying to get it on the road you know! What do ya think of the trailready's for $200? How many times have you lost a bead?

I founda cool (canadian) site showing pics of a bunch of smaller Swamper tire size comparisons: HERE.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but the 38" bogger has 29/32 tread - slightly under ONE INCH of depth! Anyway, this is a 38x11 bogger vs. a 35x16 bogger:
