: DANA 60 - Open or Limited Slip

I have the option of picking up a DANA60 with either an Open Diff or a Limited Slip.

My question is ... Which would be the easiest to start out with?

What are the pros and cons of the two choices I have here?

Once I am ready for a locker I will either go with an ARB or an OX locker, if they ever get them done. Reason being is that I want selectability in the front end.

Thanks for your input!  Keith

front or rear?
if it's the same price, why not go LS?
How much you paying for it? I'm in the market for a front and they are going for like $900-$1000 here :(

the whole truck is cheaper than the front 60 :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
around here you can find a 1-ton chevy front 79 for that much. but then you have to have the rest of it hauled off.

The DANA60 is a FRONT axle and I am getting a 14BOLT rear.

I am going to put a locker in it and NOT keep it L/S. That is why I am trying to find out which way would be the best way to go.

HEY MUDSLUT!!! You out there?!?

Maybe I didn't get my words right or make it clear. If I have a choice of buying EITHER an Open Diff 60 or a L/S 60 ... which will be the best to get now, knowing that I am going to put a locker in later?

DSI ... I don't have any firsthand knowledge of a LockRite so I haven't bothered with even considering it. AS of now, unless better info comes up, My choices of locker for the front diff are EITHER an ARB or an OX locker.

AARON ... I am only buying the 60 front NOT the whole truck. The guy I am getting it from has one of each type.

VOVA ... I am not going to stay with the L/S ... I am going to end up going with a locker. How "in the market" are you? I might be able to get you a set like mine, and a good deal price-wise compared to what you see them going for. Lemme know.

wowzers ... the "mighty 690" post ... aaaaww crap, I'm 'dating' myself with that comment. =O DOH!

What everyone is trying to tell you is that it does not make a difference, if you are going to put a full locker in later get the limited slip, that way at least you will have SOME help up front until you put a locker in, If you were going to use a lockright, THEN you would want to get the open diff because you cannot install it in the limited slip..................Comprende?

Sorry Hayraker ... I thought that if I went with Limited Slip that I would end up having to completely replace the carrier or some of it in order to accommodate the new locker. So this isn't the case then? Thanks, Keith

Both of the lockers you mention replace the carrier completely. Only a lunchbox locker i.e. lock right, ez locker, quik lock will just replace the spider gears.
