nuclearlemon 09-02-2004, 08:07 PM PINNACLE SPRINGS SUCK!!!!!!
i just installed my second warranty spring from jto on saturday. here area few shots a mere five days later...same f$##%n' problem. joe's been real cool in getting springs out, but i still have to go buy a new lift kit (with money i don't have), plus, the springs have been changed out/swapped around that i also have to buy new ubolts...i'm NOT a happy camper!
Landpimp 09-02-2004, 08:38 PM damn thats really fawked up! never seen a lean like that before.
any chance of getting 2 new leaf springs out of him?
smurfblue40 09-02-2004, 08:40 PM I'd say thats a little more than the usual "cruiser lean" :(
nuclearlemon 09-02-2004, 08:41 PM i've already gotten two new springs...same thing keeps happening...when i change the springs (and now ubolts since they've been bolted and unbolted more times than they should've been) again, i will be putting on anything else since i've never heard of any of the other springs sucking like this. i'm am so sick of doing springs...somebody come to colorado and buy my extra tub and trans and xfer case, so i can buy some real springs.
Polarweasel 09-03-2004, 05:52 PM Jeez, that almost looks like you went springover on one side, but not the other...
fc187 09-03-2004, 06:01 PM damn! gangsta lean!
all ya gotta do now is just find a bigger old lady or install a motor with more torque! :D
Ige, I'd look into ccot's hfs springs after seeing tha latest TT. They're not pricey either. Tell JTo you're tired of their product sucking, and you want a ups call tag and your money back.
You didn't accidentally install a body lift just on one side did you?
:barf:
Also, don't go bds. Their springs I put on my 60 actually ended up with the shackles pointing *inward* and they still do after a freakin' year!
reorx 09-03-2004, 07:39 PM I had the same problem with my truck before and after the SOA. You have 2 options on a 60: move the engine/tranny/xfer 3 inches towards the passenger side, or add more springs on the driver's side. My truck leaned bad after I did the SOA with the stock springs after just a couple wheeling trips. I eventually added an extra full-length leaf, plus a single small leaf to the driver's side pack. The rears have 2 new leaves each (was s-bending the leaves) with a single extra leaf under the driver's side pack. End-game: No more lean.
I didn't seem to have a leaning problem that bad when I had the BDS springs on my truck... Definately a spring that held up pretty well on my truck...
Oh I forgot, you could go 4-link and coils... :D
nuclearlemon 09-03-2004, 10:23 PM Oh I forgot, you could go 4-link and coils... :D
you could come over and do that for me... :flipoff2: that's a bit beyond my expertise...besides, i still have a 45 to get running, a 65 40 that's not much more than a tub on a frame with an old v8 sitting in it, and someday, i should actually think about finishing my baby...cruiser, that is. :D the gazillion bare wires that have been hanging unprotected under the dash might be a problem if i don't do something about it in this lifetime, but once it ran, i was so sick of working on it that i just stopped.
cruzer75 09-04-2004, 03:46 AM i say go to a local spring shop and ask them to make you a leaf or two...they may even install them for you? anyway i am to that same point of SICK OF WORKING ON SHIT i want to WHEEL MY POS anyway had to rant.

ken79fj40 09-04-2004, 06:45 AM Holy crap! Thats terrible. I thought my 3/4 inch lean with my skyjackers was bad. Thankfully my rig cam with new suspension, I was thinking of getting the springs from JTO if I had bought a truck with stock springs.
treerootCO 09-04-2004, 08:37 AM I am not defending Pinnacle in any way but why aren't there more reports of this problem? I have no idea what springs Nutley is running but they look just like your springs. The packs drop off lower where they leave the perch and you can see light between every leaf. I think the reason his broke in the way they did is because he took out a leaf to get more flex out if them. The lift probably isn't 2 1/2" anymore but they work great for him and are even side to side.
GreenPig 09-04-2004, 08:53 AM A friend's 60 leaned the same way after installing MAF springs (Same manufactuer as Pinnacle) The lean was more pronounced in the front, and after talking to a MAF tech, he switched the front springs side to side. It actually leveled out the truck.
Something to think about?
dmwberg 09-07-2004, 09:17 PM I bought a Pinnacle kit from JTO about 4 years ago and they've been nothing but crap. Soon after installation I moved to Central America, and about the same time I arrived the front springs started inverting the shackles outward to the frame. I called international to JTO who says, "never had a problem before...we'll send some longer shackles", which they then billed my credit card without authorization for. I thought they we're going to do the right thing and send them free. Mail in Central America being what it is, the shackles didn't show for two months, by which time the rears were doing the same thing. Got the next set of shcakles from SOR... Also had a problem with a JTO branded header, was poorly machined, didn't match up with the stock intake manifold, and eventually I had to double gasket it to make it seal. Again they said,"never had a problem before...".
I'll never buy from JTO again.

btdt...same problem. the springs just don't seem to have enough oomph to rebound under the weight of the 60
orangefj45 09-07-2004, 09:32 PM welcome to the club, doug, the newbie fawker! :flipoff2:
sure sounds like pinacle springs are the wrong way to go.
FWIW, i've used alcan springs on a couple of projects and they've worked very well. costs a little more, but i've never had a problem. :)
Dave67cruiser 09-07-2004, 10:34 PM I've had the same experience with Maf springs. Started my project two years ago, first thing I bought was new springs from Maf and put them in. My 40 sat with the new springs in the driveway for two years without being driven. I've driven it approximately 5,000 miles since I've finished it with no real offroad trips and the rears already have a reverse arch and the right front has no arch at all making it have a nasty lean to the passanger side. I'm done with Maf.
