I had zero issues with my 98 other than the powersteering was starting to leak when i traded it. It never used any oil at all and the V10 seem easier on transmissions than the diesel too. Good luck

Best ever 14.5 mpg on the freeway at 75-80 on a 600 mile trip I got 1 tank at 14 mpg. Around town towing my work trailer 4500 lbs approx I got no worse than 9 usually 9.5 to 10. Towing trailer on freeway at 75-80 mph for out of town jobs usually 10.5-11.5 mpg. It had an auto and 4.10 gears. My friend with the same truck but in a 5 speed gets almost exactly the same(sometimes he tows my trailer). The 99 cummins I traded it for gets 16 towing the trailer in town and a best of 20.5 empty on the freeway. Just for comparison. If I didn't use it for work and put on so many miles I would have probably kept the V10. There actually seem to have less of the little things go wrong than the electronic pumped cummins do. Later!

My father-in-law has one (mated to the auto) in his 02 2500. He tows their 35 foot 5th-wheel camper (12k#) with it every weekend -> 1-2 hour drives. He's gone on 2 cross-country trips with it too. Performance is good. His only complaint is fuel mileage.

He says that when he retires, they'll probably do more long distance trips and will trade to diesel at that time. For their short distance weekends, the fuel economy isn't enough of an issue to trade right now.

I get about 10-11 with mine in normal driving. Great engine..I love it :D

I guess they had problems with porous heads a few years, as well as misrouted spark plug wires.

got a 95 with 3.5 gears and an auto. i get 10 around town and havent towed with it yet. i think the gears are killin me cause the power really doesnt kick in until about 1500rpm. mine has 250k and i believe its still the orginal motor. have only had it for about a yr.
