I've noticed a strange vibration coming from the front of my truck. At first I thought the double cardan joint in the front driveshaft had let go on me again but it's actually something to do with the front axle on the drivers side. It's really wierd, worse at low speeds and isn't as bad if I floor it when taking off.
Here is what I've found:
1)both hubs in, transfer case in: extreme low speed vibration smooths out a bit at higher speeds
2)both hubs in, locker in, transfer case in: same as above, no change
3)both hubs in, transfer case out: harsh low speed vibration smooths out a bit at higher speeds
4)hubs out transfer case in: no vibration
5)right hub in, locker in, transfer case in: no vibration
6)left hub in, locker in, transfer case in: bad low speed vibration smooths out a bit at higher speeds
All the u-joints look fine and feel tight. There is no clanging and banging coming from the axle. I am really stumped.
I'm thinking that I have a bad driver's side U-joint but one of my friends thinks that the hub might be worn out and causing the stub shaft to flop around. Anyone have any other ideas?
