I was wondering if anyone had a "feel" for the strength of 5.89 D44 gears.
Do they have a real reputation for being weaker than say 5.12s or 4.56s in practice? They are weaker by design but has anyone actually noticed them being weaker in the field?
In case it makes a difference, target truck is 4 door Sidekick with 35" tires and TracKick t-case (4.2:1). Probably weigh around 3500 lbs in "fighting trim". Moderate off-roading, not a lot of extreme rock-crawling or anything like that. Probably be mid door in the water more often than trying to crawl a rock ledge.
I really need the 5.89s to make highway RPMs bearable...
TIA!
