I put a post on earlier but no success so far, My problem is what to do with what I got. 73' CJ5 & 77' 2door Cherokee. I want one ride when I am done, would like to combine drive train and frame from Cherokee under the CJ5 body. It would help the wheel base and get rid of weak Cj frame. I would like to know if it is good idea or not? or if anyone has done this already?:usa:

Anything is possible, If you think its a good idea then try it.

Couple of things toconsider major body work, relocating the motor and body mounts plus a whole lot of time..

It would be easier to strip the 5 and box the frame and add the other jeeps components.

I think that you should swapp the frames...especially since you would need to outboard the springs to use the front 44 anyway. Depending on the motor in the Cherokee, you could leave it. AA mfg sell new body mount brackets.

The cherokee has a AMC 360, T-18 trans, Dana 20 T-case, 44s front and rear, back is SOA from factory, if I cherokee frame the CJ what WB do you recomend? cherokee is 109" I think have to remeasure tonight, CJ is 84". Body work on the CJ is not a problem, I just want a strong running gear without super high price tag.

I think you should reinforce the original CJ frame, and then use all the Cherokee drivetrain.

The SOA was in the rear of the cherokee not the Cj, just like i said before.

I think I would stretch & reinforce the CJ frame to ~100 - 105" wheelbase. Add another body mount in the stretched part. Should be easier than putting the CJ body on the Cherokee frame

Thanks for the input everyone, keep more coming, do I have to have outboard spring hangers on the front or can you move the axle pads? CJ Jeeper got any pics? :skull:

I would use the CJ frame. If you use the Waggy frame you will not be able to get the body to sit down low enough so it will be like having a 2-3" body lift. Also you will have to move the Drivetrain back which will NOT be easy. I think stretching the Cj frame a little in the front and getting some springs with offset center pin and you can get at least a 90" wheelbase. Also you will have to outboard the springs but that is fairly simple

Sell the two built motors you currently have on engine stands, your PRO Street S10 and buy a scorpion!!! Then give me the two jeeps!!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

We are doing a similair project about 3 miles down the road from NOVA. Stretching a CJ-5 and going spring over!!!

Learning as we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well its good to see I got some input! I guess I am having a tough time picturing a CJ on a Cherokee frame mabey it will work mabey not? I guess I'll find out if MillerMan would get his ass over and help! Still would like to know if anyone has actually done this or not? :usa:

I don't see why you couldn't just drop the CJ body of the waggy frame.

Take a lot of cutting and shaping but it would only be to the CJ body.

Of course you are going to have engine pocking out of the front and drivetrain hanging out of the back. :D But that should be interesting to look at.

I myself like the long wheel base but it does have it's disadvantages.

Fawk it! Do it and see what happens! It will be original if nothing else and lighter which will make the drivetrain just that much more bulletproof.
