: Best dam penatrating lube out there?
I am trying to get a bolt out of a rubber suspension mount, It is being a real pain, kinda like trying to remove a dry exaust mount only it is a lot tighter.
I tried wd40...hahaha and decided to try and drive it our with a center punch. Well, you guessed it. The center unch went flying and knock out my front teeth.
what do you think? I mean about the best kinda lube, or way to get the damn bolt out of the mount....drill it?
thanks
tj
welndmn 01-28-2002, 02:55 PM a torch, and BURN that %@!@ out!
IMO PB blaster is the best penatrating lube out there
Welby 01-28-2002, 03:01 PM Another vote for PB Blaster...That stuff rules. WD40 is junk :D
Shaker 01-28-2002, 03:04 PM A 3'rd for PB Blaster!!! If the bolts rusted/been there 4 ever get the torch out......:( :p
dangerber 01-28-2002, 03:11 PM Ditto. Another PB B'laster vote-from the rust belt...
Rubber+rusty bolt=Torch action!! :trooper:
ranger 01-28-2002, 03:15 PM Spit!;) :skull:
where do you guys get this stuff? We have a fastenal store in my dinky town?
dangerber 01-28-2002, 03:22 PM Napa :p
dirtrod 01-28-2002, 03:38 PM Torch, hammer and a waterhose is what works best on bushings, if you get the steel hot enough it will melt the rubber around it...sorry about the teeth
larryboy 01-28-2002, 04:33 PM PB Blaster or the big red wrench!
Brutpwr 01-28-2002, 04:38 PM GM sells a great penetrating lube also. Its for exhaust heat stoves or something like that--the guys at the parts counter will know what it is. Most anything is better than WD-40--Triflow and Liquid Wrench come to mind.

clc900 01-28-2002, 05:00 PM Here is one for ya, tearing into the RC60 and I need to get the 4 nuts off the steering arm on top of the knuckle. Problem is the damn nuts are almost rusted away. It is almost like the nuts and the bolts are all one piece. No way to put a wrench on it. Question is how do I get them off? How do the bolts attach to the knuckle? Can I just cut them off, pound the bolts out and replzce them with new ones? HELP!!!
I was about to say KY Jelly when i first saw this thread. but some hot wrench works really well.
hy_desert_4wheeler 01-28-2002, 05:34 PM ZEP is the best I have used. I used to work in a grain elevator. we tried turning some of the adjusting bolts with a 24 pipe wrench and a 4ft cheater wouldnt turn sprayed it with Zep and came back an hour later and turned it with a cresent.
strong_like_tractor 01-28-2002, 05:41 PM I prefer GM brand weazle piss
coyote 01-28-2002, 05:46 PM To answer you question concerning the bolts the go about 3/4 the way through and you could ez out them but I would try coke, yes coke first to help fight the rust....as far as lube goes I use CRC 3-36...the stuff kicks ass and is registered, for what that's worth.....you can get it at Grainger or other industrial supply chains
miniyota 01-28-2002, 05:55 PM pb blaster or that anti-spatter protection for welding:flipoff2:
Hillbilly 01-28-2002, 06:27 PM I haven't used PB, but I got give Kroel Oil a vote. It's done everything that I've asked it to.:p
Jeepskickass 01-28-2002, 07:10 PM PB Blaster is the shit... And I wanna see some pics!!

If you can get to it easily reshape the bolt on 2 sides with a Dremel so you can get some kind of wrench on it, Then lube/heat it up and remove. Worked for me several times.
 Good Luck!
XtrmTJ 01-28-2002, 08:52 PM I use KY Jelly, watersoluable ! Comes in Cherry flavored too ! :D :rasta: :flipoff2:

Get mine from Pep Boys auto parts...NAPA might have it too. It's kinda hard to find sometimes.

evilfij 01-29-2002, 07:10 AM Clean outer surface with wire brush.
Spray with PB blaster.
Whack end in with a hammer.
Spray with PB blaster.
Come back next day.
Spray with PB blaster.
Clean off head of bolt/nut to rid PB blaster from surface you need to put the wrench off.
Fit tight 6 point socket and longest breaker bar you can fit.
Push bar as quick and hard as possible. Maybe whack the end with a sledge hammer to move it. key is the quick direct force no slow application, you have to break it loose. I have used a 24in breaker bar on 3/8" head nuts, overkill is the name of the game.
It will come off or it will break.
All my rovers came from canada and average 38 years old so I have a bit of experience with rusty bolts :)
So far I have met two that I could not get with the method above. Those I cut with a dremel along the nut to crack it and then took them off.

Robertshaw Rust Buster....... with the zoom spout...... works the best.... but it's really hard to find
Scrammando 01-29-2002, 07:58 PM Kroil is kick ass but hard to find in some areas, Blaster is good too, used it for a long time with awesome results.
For the bushing, hit it with the blue wrench lightly and it'll come out in 1 piece, then throw away as it's JUNK!
For getting the nutz off, try this.
Clean them up well, then grab a torch, but just a regular propane torch or a cutting torch turned down low. Heat the bottom of the nut only, all the way around. Now put a candle (ordinary white one) at the top, the wax will wick down through between the nut and bolt and allow you to spin them off with a some Vise-Grips easily. I've done this hundreds of times, always works, even on the most rusted on crap.
Chad H 01-29-2002, 09:55 PM PB Blaster, Fawk even Jim Rome knows this? Newbie:flipoff2:

jimmyjames 01-30-2002, 01:46 PM I have found that a product called "TRUST IT" from a company called auto solutions works the best, hands down ,and I work on rusty toyotas every day.
Recluse 01-30-2002, 07:30 PM PB Blaster? Never heard of it.
But then I've allways used Kroil.Never needed to look any further.
