Does anyone know if the 1972 Cadillac Eldorado steering box will work for my saginaw power steering conversion?

Any Saginaw box will work with your conversion. What are you looking for?

FYI......72 Caddy Eldo box has a casting number of 5687962, a 13/16" input shaft, and the turns ratio varies from 2.75-3.5 turns. Some say this may be too quick for a short wheel base vehicle. I have only driven 4.25 turn boxes on Cruisers.

Eric, I have a 4 bolt 13/16" box casting# 5691676. Is this the 4.25 turn box? I'm hoping so. Don't know what it's from.

They used that casting number (5691676) for 3.75-4.25 turn boxes. Check the bottom of the box for a "6" or a "76", then count the turns. Let us know what you find out.

It's got a "66" on it. Counted the turns and it's just under 3.25.
I'm 100" wheelbase. Hope it's not too fast but it was free so I'll give it a try. Do the 4.25 boxes also have 13/16" input? Cause I allready ordered the Borgenson for this box.

Of the 4 turn boxes I have seen, they all have 13/16" 36 spline shafts. I am sure there is always an exception. Search for late 60s, early 70s GM cars. They will have 13/16" shafts.

Hey guys, I too have the caddy eldo box. It seems to be the 2.75 turn box. I am building a crawler out of my fj40. Would this be acceptable for the hydro assist?

fwiw, i have seen a bunch of 4 bolt 4.25 turn boxes in the older grand cherokees and grand wagoneers as well.

personally, i would'nt run anything other than the 4.25 turn box on a cruiser. pretty scary on the freeway, unless you're into "instant lane changes".

My cruiser is offroad only.
