: 87 f-250 blinker problem
broncoboy 01-28-2002, 05:58 PM ok my blinkers on my f250 dont work anymore. before they dies, they blinked very eratic. it would blink fast then very slow. now it doesnt even get the flasher to blink or make any noise. also, the lblinker arrows dont come on, on the dash. nothing happens when i turn the blinker on. checked all the fuses, the flasher, the activator in the steering column. everything looks fine. all i can think is i burnt a fuseable link, but why wouldnt it kill the fuse first. also the brake lights work. the hazzard flashers also work. im out of ideas. i dont want to take it some place to have it worked on because im too damn poor.

desertCJ 01-28-2002, 06:19 PM Well then, you're fawked!
J/K I would take a closer look at the switch in the steering column and also get out the volt meter and start checking the wires for power. Start up front and work your way back. Hope this helps. If all else fails,:smokin: about it.:D
broncoboy 01-28-2002, 08:41 PM yeah i was afraid of that

Dan-H 01-29-2002, 12:57 PM did you use a heavy duty flasher?
Do you have towing wiring? the stock flasher circuit "knows" how much load its flashing, so when a bulb burns out it can flash fast. (dorky setup). With trailer lights the stock ones flash slow or erratic.
get a heavy duty one if you haven't already and try it.
Also, I think there was a recall of ford trucks with the tilt wheel. My 88 was recalled. It had to do with frayed wires in the column. Not sure if it applies to your truck or not. If it applies to your vehicle and they must inspect it, and if no frays install a sheath. If frayed they install a new harness and maybe a new keyswitch. There was a recall on the keyswitch now that I think about it...
Anyway, while its in you might ask ( or leave a six pack on the seat with a note;) ) for any tips on solving the flasher problem
just a thought.

DustyM 01-29-2002, 01:09 PM Did you check your blinker fluid lately?:D
broncoboy 01-29-2002, 01:31 PM thats a good idea, i have a tilt steering wheel, but when i ripped the whole thing apart yesterday, i saw a sheeth down the column. i dont have the heavy duty flasher, but it should be the problem cause i added a new one with no avail. this is really weird, because it doesnt blink or anything, no lights come on and stay on or anything. just nothing happens. they sell a new blinker cam as they call it autozone i might pick up and see what that does, my guess is nothing.
what is even weirder is that it never went out like blinked intermittently just worked one day and hasnt since. i figures it would work and some times not if its a short, or a bad connection, so im assuming something it burnt up.
i think im going to go and poke around with the test light now.
im hoping some one will have the answer for me
