are captured on what digital camcorder under $500?
Gotta get one with a kid on the way. Pretty sure I can count on good info here, or at least some bs. BTW, I know nothing about cameras at this point.

i dont think that you'll find much in way of digital video cams under $500.... and if you dom they are most lilely all shiat. there is a reason name brands like Sony cost around $1000, they really ARE that much better. I have played with them all, and decided to just buy a Canon G2 still picture/short video camera over anything else. with a big memoery card in it you can get about 60 secs of video and about 100 pictures. i like it a lot.

Don't know how much mine cost, got it for xmas, but i'm pretty sure its not that expensive compared to most. It does the job though, good clear pics and everything, quite happy with it, its a nikon coolpix 775.

I think I got my terminology mixed up. I guess what I am looking for is a analog video cam, with digital still capability.

www.dealtime.com Best prices I have found. I used them to locate a good price on a digital camera. They found several places selling the camera I wanted for as much as $150 less than what they were going for local. I printed it out walked into a local store and wore out the manager till he matched the price :)
Sony makes some good stuff. I have also been shopping for a camera. I wouldn't bother with the ones that have the memory stick for single pictures. it's like a VCR/TV more to fail. They are also limited in pixle size.
The one I have been looking at is Sony DCR-TRV130 (www.dealtime.com/Product/Product/1,2436,410--1-1-10818-1,00.html)
All the good stuff like image stabalization, Night shot, LCD veiw screen, 560 zoom and about the price your wanting to spend.
