Hey has anyone had experience with a Lockright in a FF 14 bolt? I don't think I want one in a D44 or 12 bolt but I thought since the Detroit for the 14 bolt retains the stock carrier the Lockright for the 14 might be good as well. Anyway would be going in a 65 C10 with 37-12.50 Goodyear MT's its a DD/work truck but sees some decent mud and a lotta weekend wheeling as opposed to the total gettin it awn style some of the rest of ya have. Anyways the Lockright is $255 where the Detroit is $330 Good or bad deal lemme know, Later

Weld it. You'll be much happier.

I don't really want to weld it cuz I have to drive it in the winter a lot and up here in Idaho it can get very icy. And I know your gonna say that a locker sucks on ice but I feel that it is best choice other than open cuz if you coast through corners they unlock and act basically like an open diff. If I didn't have to do the winter thing I would just weld it though due to the lock unlock thing which is not too bad on a fullsize longbed though. Thanks for the advice anyway! BTW TPIJeep where did you get your detroit? I can't find better than $319 Thanks again!

Thanks man, for the price I think I will look into that option which includes the nearly unbreakable reputation!

Not necessarily. Sometimes when you let off on the gas with a locker it can let go and shake and shimmy the rear end around even on dry pavement ;)

Thanks for the heads up Curtis! My only experience with lockers on the road has been in a friends truck. F250 Hiboy Detroit in the back. It was definitely worse than an open diff in the winter, but a couple of high school kids screwing around never put it in the ditch and I never noticed and wiggles when coasting on corners. My truck is similiar in length and weight to the truck that I have had experience in and I would think that it should be similiar. I have also ridden in a welded Dodge 1/2 ton 4x4. It truly was scary on packed ice. In snow it was awesome. It seems that the worst traits of a locker are seen the worst in short light vehicles as opposed to big long heavy trucks. Anyway the way I see it I am guaranteed that a welded diff ain't gonna unlock and help me out in corners. I will take my chances with the locker (based on past experience) and see what happens! Actually I didn't wanna start another debate on lockers vs welds. I wanted to start a Detroit vs Lockright discussion. Anyway I do appreciate you taking the time to express your opinion! Later

For the extra $120 the strength of the NoSpin is worth it. I can tell you driving to work every day from mid October to March on icy streets with a rear Detroit or Lockright I wouldn't trade my locker for a welded diff. Before I sold my rear ARB in my BJ40 and switched to a Soflocker (#225SL124A for FF rear) it was scary to drive around with a rear spool (ARB in lock). One wheel always was broken loose on any sort of curve. So I practically never used it on-road. And offroad the Soflocker is as good as a spool or welded diff. Actually better 'cause it maintains traction/adhesion on muddy descents with BOTH wheels. IMHO this whole "weld it" thing doesn't make a lot of sense. even $$ and sense, since I've seen them break - sometimes twice on one trip.
