: offset Waggy springs on CJ

I searched for a set of offset springs (more flex and better ride?) in previous posts and found alot of info, but I just want to confirm things before I go throwing money around. rockslut apperently uses the Rancho 44044 Waggy springs all around w/ the 3rd leaf from the bottom removed. Will this spring bolt up to the existing spring mounts on my 78 CJ7 or will I need to move the mounts towards the center of the frame? How far? How much wheelbase would I gain by using these springs? Can I use them SUA without clearence issues? What pitman arm do I need when lengthening my wheelbase in front? Anything else you can tell me about the problems, harsh ride I will run in to would be helpful?

I have 1.5" lift shackles right now, and want to get 2.5" lift out of these springs.

Just trying to bring this back to the top.

I'm not sure of the rancho springs, but the factory waggy springs are wider than the cj's! If you put them on the front of you cj you'll have to modify the the back spring mount to hold them along with longer shackle bolts. I used the waggy pitman arm on mine when I did it, but there is all kinds of arms that would likely work..

I know this is an old post, but it was the only one I could find with 44044's and SUA.

Has anyone tried this with a CJ7?
I will go SOA w/ bigger axles, but for now I'm staying SUA.
Thanks

With waggy springs front and rear you would get 4" more wheelbase. You will have to change your shakles and deal with the spring mount for the added spring width. Waggy 2.5" wide spring

You would think that because the front springs on a CJ are only 2 inches wide that you would have to change the springer hanger. But you don't! At least not on my 84. I am running the 44044's front and back.

You will need to mount new shackle hangers that are 2.5" wide though. I used some cj rear shackle mounts and redrillled the holes to bolt up to the front.

With one leaf removed my shackle angle is way to high, damn near 45 *. With all the leaves in the pack the angle is good but the jeep is really high. It is SOA on a D60 and my 38.5" sx's barely reach the body. This is also with shackles that are 5.75" long, to long, for me anyway.

You can also get the shakles that go from YJ spring to stock CJ hanger. I would just remake some hangers that are 2.5" wide.

I forgot that the stock CJ female spring hanger is plenty wide. Thats what i have on the rear of my ride holding 2.5" F150 springs. No more waggy front springs all the way around

If anyone has tried the 44044 SUA, does the rear dif cover clear on a CJ7. I'm going to craw under the jeep to night and see if I have 2" I was thinking of changing the tank anyway;)

I know they are a 2-1/2" lift on a cherokee, but what is it on a CJ7 with the typical camping gear, winch, racks, tanks, yada yada.
I was hoping for about 4" maybe a bit more. Am I dreaming?

Yep, you are dreaming. Just go SOA and leave the tank alone. You dont have 2" to move that axle back SOA. They usually rub with 3-4" SUA

Bummer. :P
Thanks for the input. 3-4 inches isn't really enough to run 35 boggers, even with trimming and 1" body lift.
Oh well it sounded pretty cool. I have TJ flares, so I'm going to cut the fenders back, but I have more room back then I do forward.
I don't know why I'm so hesitant to go SOA, I guess I think SOA = 60 60 60's :D

I guess I’ll stay where I am until I build axles, buy tires, and go SOA.

I’m still going to lift my tank an inch, clock my d300, and pretend that I lifted the Jeep. :emb3: hahaha

CJ's use the same fixed mount for the front and rear springs. The spring bushings on the front springs take up the extra 1/2" of width. The Rockslut is correct that the shackle mounts and shackles for the front springs will need to be changed.
