Has anyone put an Olds motor in a CJ5?I have an Olds 307 from an 84 Buick. The motor ran great but the FWD trans blew out and the car is not worth fixing. So I am thinking of useing the motor and a TH350 I have combined with the stock Dana 20 T-case.Has anyone done this or heard of this being done.I am moving the rear back atleast 4" so this will help with the driveshaft length.Any info would help thanks Blazin Oh and its a '79 CJ5:rasta:

An Olds 307 in a FWD? That's a V8 isn't it? I didn't think GM ever put V8s in FWD cars with the exception of the Toronado and Eldorado. At least not until recently. Is it transverse mounted? If so, you might run into some motor mount issues. Some transverse engines don't have mounting bosses for longitudal applications. Otherwise I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I can't imagine the low deck Olds engine being much bigger that the AMC V8s. You'll be on your own for motor mounts though. Also, if it were me I think I'd get a dual pattern TH350 so I could change to a Chevy V8 if I wanted to later on.

Yeah its a V8 and it was mounted front to rear. When I first got the car I thought it was rear wheel drive. The only reason I am thinking about doing this is because I have the engine and trans. If I decide to goto a chevy later I will probally just get another trans and rebuild it than put it in.Kind of thought I'd be on my own for engine mounts.I just E-mailed Novac so maybe they will have a mount I can use.If not I can fab some, just more work.Need to look at the engine mounts and make sure this will work.Engine is still in car. Thanks Blazin

The block has the mount bosses on the side just like the RWD so you could probably use stock engine side mounts with a universal frame mount.

What kind of a Buick is it? Regal? I didn't think Buick made any V8 FWD cars. At least not in '84.

Its a Riviera. The thing is loaded with options. But in rough shape.I bought it for $250 for a work car.Ran great but trans went out.Not worth the time or $ to fix.So I figure I can use the power steering and motor in the jeep.THe jeep has a non running 258 with the crappy 3 speed T150.I have a 350sb that needs rebuilding in pieces and a 465/205 combo. But want an auto and would like the jeep running before spring.Fiqure if I throw this combo in now and decide I want the 350sb in later I will allready have the adapter so just swap.Blazin:D

Forgot about the Riviera. I guess those were FWD and available with a V8. In any case, sounds like a plan. I'm sure you already know you need an aftermarket adapter to attach the transfer case. You have to disassemble the tranny to install the main shaft. The rest should be easy. You will probably be able to leave the transfer case in the stock position.

Yeah, thinking of useing the Novac adapter. This will give me a 24.6" tranny lenght with adapter. This is only maybe a couple inches longer than the stock trans/T-case combo now.The 307 is also a shorter V8 so I am thinking of pushing it forward a little. Not sure on the shifter though.I like the Lokar one that bolts to the tranny. But the B&M cable one is cheaper.Blazin:usa:
