OK so I found a set of rockwells for a very good price, but shipping is gunna kill me cause to ship from Ohio to Washington is around 800+ from what the guy told me. More than the freeking axles cost! Does anyone know how to ship such heavy pigs at a fraction of this cost? I guess they weigh somewhere around 1400 pounds. I don't care when they get here just so long as it is in the next 4-5 months!

The most it has ever cost me was $345, and that was because numbnuts on the other end had the driver unload them and pull them inside his house. That was a $300 internal delivery charge with $45 to ship. Most axles cost me $30-45 cross country to a loading dock. As was mentioned above find a buddy who ships alot of stuff at work and use their discount and loading dock.

I still bet my discount is bigger then theirs though. :flipoff2:

Another money saver is have it packaged so it is stackable, that will cut down on some cost and if you can have them pull the knuckles off. Shipping companys look to get a number of skids on a truck based on a 48"x36" pallets stacked 2 high. Most of the time axles don't come packaged to be stacked and rarely are less then 48" long. Just some tips. :D

Where in OH are they located. If they are close, we can ship them from our shop. Don't have a loading dock, but we've got a fork lift :) I don't think we have any kind of discount though.

So can you ship them to me for 30-45 bucks a piece? I can have them shipped to where I work, at a car dealership, if that would indeed make it less. I believe the name of the town is Canton Ohio where the place of business is. I am here in Walla Walla WA. Thanks

Well, you'll have to take care of all the shipping arrangements. I'm in Dayton, zip code 45342. Old Dominion comes to our shop from time to time. If you can get the guy you're buying them from to put them on pallates or a crates or whatever. I could run over and pick them up for gas money. Canton is about an hour away from me.

OR, I'll load them on my trailer along with my jeep and you can pay my gas to drive out there to the left coast. Good excuse to do the Rubicon again and then head down and hit the hammers:D Then I'd get to drink some   with the real Pirates.

Easy

If you use a common carrier.

Tell them its "class 50 Railroad material" That is usually the cheapest rate.

I use ABF a lot.

I'll put money I could ship cheaper than anyone here...by going through my company(who ships millions of pounds, and thousands of dollars around the world MONTHLY) I can usually ship axles and such for just about nothing:D

Coiled you should run over to Ft Lewis when they have their DRMO auction you can probably get a whole truck cheaper than the price of the axles with shipping..

www.forwardair.com - they are fantastic. Shipped my Dana 60 from Cincinnati to Portland, Oregon for $170........and a 14BFF from Kansas City to Portland for $175.

They only ship terminal to terminal, go to their website and check out your nearest ones. They usually can stomp a common carrier on pricing, and it only took 4 days for both axles when I used them.
