Jeep or bronco dana 20?

In the case of the bronco dana 20, one shift rail controls the rear axle, and the other the front axle. Twin sticking it is simple, you just gotta set up your own shifters on the two shift rails. If you want to buy one, Wild Horses sells them.

If you just twin stick it I think you gain access to rwd lo. If you remove the interlock pills (like I did), you can get fwd hi or low also, but you gotta disassemble and reassemble the transfer case for that.

In the case of the Jeep dana 20 I'm less familar with, but I THINK one shift rail controls 4wd/rwd, and the other control hi or low range. I'm not sure what advantage twin sticking would bring you.

It is true. The dana 20 uses one stick for 4wd/rwd and the other is just for HI and LOW range.:D

And just FYI....on the EB D20, you can get 2wd low (rear) without removing the interlock pills (on the T-shifter 20, which is 66-72 and has the more desirable 2.46:1 low).

I just rebuilt mine and left the pills in, because I can think of many cases where rear 2wd low would come in very handy, but I couldn't think of many for FWD low (or high).

Not to disagree, Charly, but the basic reason for FWD (lo) is Cutting Brakes. Now many people might think that the relatively small advantage of cutting brakes isn't worth (to them) the danger of accidently putting the axles in different ranges or the trouble of taking out the interlock pills, which is valid point. 2wd lo is already a great advantage in itself.

Well, I wouldn't consider your point disagreeing at all, you are addressing something I didn't, and that's good.

I considered the value with cutting brakes, but since I don't plan on running them (anytime soon at least, or at least not on this particualr vehicle) I said screw it and left the pills in.

And wilth the EB D20 out of the vehicle, it only takes removal of the intermediate shaft....then loosen the shift fork set screws, pull the rails , takes those plugs out and voila the pills fall right out...:D.

You're right, some people might think that cutting brakes are of rather dubious advantage, or as one of my buddies said to me on one of our runs 'you know Chad, we don't really deduct you any points if you back up'......

As far as taking it apart, you're right again, just take that intermediate shaft out ......... THEN try to get that sucker back in!! HA!! With all those roller bearings and two thrust washers, for me it was a royal PITA, but then I'm no mechanical genius. I eventually muddled my way through with the usual swearing and tool throwing.
