: cross over steering
GMC71k20 09-16-2004, 04:06 PM I just bought some 8" skyjacker softride springs and i am wondering what kind of steering set ups you guys are running. The truck is a 71 GMC ke2500 with the stock d44 up front. I'm planning on running 38x15.5 fun countrys. anyone have anything to say about these tires?
jekbrown 09-16-2004, 07:09 PM with that much lift you'll definitely want crossover steering. Not sure if you have the flat-top knuckles for this or not... but they are required for x-over.
if you have em, or can get them, they need to be machined to accept a steering arm. Offroad Design does this mod and has arms and stuff for em too.

tippy99888 09-17-2004, 02:48 PM 4" steering block (D60) and dropped pitman arm. The steering doesn't bother me near as much as the lack of "softride" hope you weren't planning on having a big dinner before going for a drive.. I think I'll be going for XJ coils and a 4 link in the rear and a Tubed flat bed..

Sorry to hyjack the thread but how can I get a set of those spacers (blocks) for the steering arm?? Cuz of my springs and the drag link being way to close (almost touching) I can't put my hy steer on. But If I could get some of those studs and spacers it would solve all my steering problems
momar 09-19-2004, 08:31 AM post a wanted add in the classifieds, I'm sure somone on here is selling it
very common part available at any 4x4 shop IIRC
I did just see a website that had arms built to achieve a fair bit of lift for that purpose

i was wondering that myself. i dont know anythign about how much high steer stuff costs, but is that reasonable? sounds a little pricey..
"1/2 & 3/4 Ton Crossover Steering Kit* $545"
i wanna get that for my K5, but not that price..
GMC71k20 09-19-2004, 07:03 PM i think i may try and have a friend fab most of it for me. unless i randomly get rich.
IMO it is very high pricing unless it includes the required knuckles or the machining of them at the very least
the DOM tubing I used is $5.40cdn a foot, I just bough a full stick last month or so
you need less then 3'
the pitman arm for the 2wdr box is about $60
a steering arm is around $100-150 ish for a cheap one IIRC
don't recall what the 1/2 tons use for studs so cannot guess on that pricing
Sky stuff looks Blingy as does OTT but I went with cheapo Ant arms and will be making my own next time around
mrtwstr 09-22-2004, 03:30 PM This post brought my attention to a few errors on my web site. It looks like my web designer added up the kit prices off list price on all the individual components. The 1/2 and 3/4 ton kits sell for $465.00, it also now includes the sector shaft nut and washer. I will have the price changes up in a few days.

Home Built 09-22-2004, 05:11 PM I got 2 of those spacers, I'll sell you one for 10 bucks plus shipping if you want it.
Don't have the studs though, I think you can get those at most 4x4 shops.
it's a 9/16x18 on one side and a 9/16x13 on the other..
