: JD2 update

Just because some of you are waiting on them too, I thought I would share.

I ordered mine back around the 18th of December from Medford Tools, they told me then it would be 4 weeks or so before I would get it.

Medford Tools left me a message yesterday afternoon - my bender shipped out Friday, and should be here tomorrow or Thursday.

Thought some of you would like to know at least something is moving over there at JD2 :p

did you get the hydraulic set up with yours, or are you gonna muscle it?

Just curious, friend of mine got his a while back and read the part about being able to bend 2" .120( i think it was 120) tube with two fingers....yeah right!!!

Its a great bender, well built and the dies are built well too, but bending by hand is a biotch (unless we're doing something wrong??) , even with a long breaker he made!!!

Its well worth it, we are just gonna get a power ram to use and go from there.....just wish we could afford all the dies we want...:D :D

Yeah, they just shipped a descent size production run that they finished last week... I ordered mine from Mark at MTech on the 2nd of Jan and it went out at the same time yours did... Van Sant Enterprises left me a message last week saying their shipment was on the way too...

I am ready to place my order and would like to know also. The best price I found was for $235 plus shipping.(without dies)

He was "aligning the molecules to make it more flexible". He makes some phat sheet, but I also think he's :smokin: a little much.

:D

No more work on the Cruiser yet. It did make it back into the garage and the front axle has seen some cleaning. Other than that I'm just waiting for wheels & u-bolts in order to get the axles bolted up. Once they're on there, then I'll go back and finish the gussets on the outboards. I'll probably lay another bead on a couple of things before I flip it over. That'll be this weekend (or never) at the rate I'm going. No time to shop for the things I need during the day.

I'll post pics when I get some....

Oh yeah, I want to buy a bender also, I'm just trying to get some feedback on the best prices and optional places. I'm going to try the search, I'm sure it's been covered.

What did you guys pay? This is what I was quoted:

$266.50 - Model 3 Bender w/ Degree Ring

Not too bad. But when you look at the hydro kit, hang on to your butt.

$85.00 - adapter kit
$944.50 - cylinder, pump, & hose

That brings it from $266.50 up to $1296.00!

That's a lot of  money.

Does this pricing seem about par:question:

anybody know anything about the bender they had in the 4wd and sport utility. the mitler bros one that was portable and mounted to the tube and bended back on it'self. seemed like it would be awkward to use, just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience.

He was annealing that alum plate...You smoke it with a acetylene flame and then heat it until the soot burns off. That is a easy to tell how hot to get the alum for annealing, when it cools you can work it real easily.

I ordered mine a week and half ago and they said they had just hired more people and that wait times should start going down. THey quoted me 3 or possibly 4 weeks wait at the most! Called today to give cc # for 2" die and asked how long I was looking at and they told me 5-6 weeks! WTF shit is that! Hire more people and wait time goes up! This sucks man cause I want to start bendin!

That's about $300 - $350 off of the new price (no s/h) but it still hasn't met the reserve. It doesn't say if it's a 90* or 180* die. That makes a difference in price also.

How does the Pro Tools bender compare to the JD2? Has anyone worked with both?

DRM
02-01-2002, 07:51 PM
Well, isn't this just GREAT :mad3:

MEdford Tools calls me this afternoon - seems there was a screw-up and instead of JD2 shipping the bender to me, they incorrectly shipped it to Medford Tools!

So instead of me having my bender this week like it should have been here, it is now in Oregon, and even though they shipped it back out this afternoon to the correct place this time, that is at least another 5 day wait to get my bender...

Sheesh.... I just can't win :crybaby2:

I'm thinking that when it shows up, you seem to be missing that die you might need some time in the near future ;) Plus with all the hassle you have had to go through, them shipping it to a different location, you lost money cause you were supposed to be doing some work for a customer;) and now you want a substantial discount or you might have to post this one here and other web sites ( which could reach out to about 30,000 people )and see that everyone thinking of ordering one knows not to get it from them.or they could throw in a die or 2 :D
call them every hour on the hour till it shows up and untill they give you something for your lost time,, you might be suprised at what you can get when you bitch real good:D

Oh just Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff fffft!

I went with the model 4 from jd2. Thought cool I already have a hydraulic pump and 15ton ram, so ordered it without the hydraulic set up. 1", 1.5" and 2" dies.

Everything arrived, much to the chargin of the UPS guy!

Darn, my 15 ton ram wouldn't work on their setup. Looked to order a the correct ram, but turns out JD2 cheapest price on their Nike ram. Another week.... that SWEDISH ram had one odd threading size. Not SAE, nor Metric, seemed to fit. Swedish Whitworth??? :( So called them back, and got the hose ordered. :D

Finally got my hydraulic pump set up to push, hold, drain (internal spring in the ram). Bending is FUN! :D

Go-kart is finished... time to work on a cage, when my older son asked "can you build me a kart, too?"

Now to save up for that nice Millermatic 251 dual spool set up....

it's the #105. the guy said that the 1/2" arms bend over time with 2". so he got another $50 out me for the 5/8" arms. i dont know if i was bamboozled or not but the thing is pretty beefy. the bender was $325. so about $90 more than the jd2. think they're having a killer deal on the 1.75" dies right now too. the best part was no 4-6 week wait. :D

I also got the $40 nothcer form Harbor freight. JD2s notcher is 4 and a half times as much and only cuts a 50*. The HF notcher cuts to 60*.

Basically, I am gonna copy what Jay K did to his:
http://www.mindspring.com/~jayk3/bender/

One reason he went with the setup and ram he did was that it allows more than a 90 degree bend with a single stroke without re-pinning, whereas the JD2 setup you have to re-pin once or twice for a 90+ deree bend.
