: Fuel Injected 4.0L build-up

I received a fuel injected 4.0L motor for free quite a few months ago. There was something wrong with the valve or a lifter or something, and then something happened and they pulled it and now I have it. But anyway... I just disassembled it down to the bare block tonight, and hopefully will get to take it to the machine shop soon to get cleaned up and bored .030 over.
And that is where my knowledge ceases. When I take it to the machine shop, is there anything else I should get done? Someone told me that I should take the new rotating assembly (which I don't have yet) with me so the machine shop can machine everything to fit together. Is that true? I don't want them to put it together for me though, which is what I'm worried about if I were to take everything to them.
I'm also trying to get recomendations for components to do this build-up. I got a link from someone on another message board (fbody.com) to "Jakes Racing Engines", and they offer full kits where they claim everything is included. http://www.jakesracingengines.com/stroker%20crank%20kits.htm . Anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks in advance for any help. I'll do my best to not ask completely retarded questions, but I'm just trying to learn the proper way and the proper techniques to building a good motor.

Better move this to newbie before you get flamed and told to go to JU.

As long as you're rebuilding it stroke it to a 4.6 - do a search on "4.0 stroker".
Oh yeah - read this http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241603 and search before asking. You might just want to move this to Newbie Tech now.

I would highly recomend having the rotating and reciprocating assemblies fully balanced. Take in everything from the harmonic balancer to the flywheel.
This will make for a much smoother running engine, it will not "shake" and vibrate as much. Some people say it will last longer too. Maybe if you were pulling a lot high revs, but the AMC inline sixes are forty year old technology engine blocks, they don't like high rpms much.
When I built my 258, I had a complete balance job done. It made a big difference in how smooth the engine ran.

Get an ARP bolt/stud kit.
Balance
Blueprint
Port the head (if you have money SBC valves will fit) Also a little bowl work goes a long way on a 4.0L head.
Header - portmatch to the head.
Intake - portmatch to the head
cam - try Hesco, they have efi compatible cams.
If you improve airflow try a open element airtube and a larger throttle body.

If you don't know about assembling motors, have somebody do it for you. Nothing here is rocket science, it is all standard hot rod knowledge.
