: What got done?

Here's a thread for all the builders of never-ending, eternal build-ups.... so what did you get done this weekend?

I managed to finish up fabbing the frame tie-ins for the rear bumper mounts and started to attach them to the Scout. I got 4 of the 8 holes drilled that I needed and managed to snap-off my 3/8" bit in the 4th hole (the Hole Hawg is unmerciful on bits when they decide to bind up). It was getting late so I just quit for the day and cleaned up.

Sunday, (with a new bit) I drilled the remaining holes and welded one of the tie-ins in place. Started to weld the the second one on only to find out that the welder was now out of wire. So, another trip to the store for a spool of wire (they only had .035 so I had to spring for a package of new tips as well) and I got the second tie-in welded in place. Fabbed up the mount plates and stand-offs and got them welded onto the bumper and the whole shabang mounted up.

Called it a day at that point.... now I need to figure out what type of pull point to add, remove the bumper and paint it and then reinstall it. Funny how the seemingly "little things" tend to take wwwaaaaaaayyyyy longer than you anticipate.

Trail rig - No Action: still waiting for me to put the new Dana 20 in (and make sure it has oil when I'm done).

Tow-rig? No Action:

Race rig? Washed it, pulled it into the shop, and started cutting steel for the "X" brace in the B-hoop. Got the two top diagonals cut n' half fitted.

Hope to weld the X in, but NEED to spend more time adjusting the shifter on the 727 and fixing the leaking dip-stick O-ring before the Billings race this coming weekend.

Trailer: Spent most of the non-raining time working on the trailer. Got my new torch set filled, and proceeded to torch the mangled fenders off the trailer.

Bought $120 worth of steel and a couple of wooden planks.

Before I could start cutting the steel for the new fenders, I broke another bandsaw blade.

Plus, it was cold n' raining outside.. not the best conditions to flap-wheel to bare metal, then fire up the electric welder... :D

Gonna clean up the other side of the shop (needed to sooner or later anyhow) and just back the trailer inside so I'm no longer dependent on the dreary weather we've been having.

End result will be elimination of the sheetmetal formed fenders. Replacing with 12"x.120 sheeting with 2x2x.120 angle support. Going to give some extra room around the tires while I'm at it. Also going to add a foot per side to the deck, making the deck about as wide as the fenders.

All of that because I fell off the trailer a dozen times the weekend before while trying to load a very muddy Scout. Mangled the fenders for the last time.

Finally--- Alot got done. Welded in a new shackle reverse so I could mount up my new 2.5" wide Alcan springs and bolt in the freshly narrowed D60. Rebuilt my d300 and put on the AA 32 spline output shaft. Oh yea, it was a good weekend. Next weekend, new hangers for the rear, install the t case, button up the d60 take measurements so Jesse can send me my driveshafts. I should be done with my rig just in time to store it for the winter.

It's things like that keep us from getting the rigs done.... but I can't work on the damn thing all the time.... gotta have a life as well.

Bob, how's the progress coming on your junk.... just curious to know if I might actually have mine out of the garage before you. :flipoff2:

Nothing exciting...
I went to the Hammers, kept flipping front shackles, parked the Scout at camp, drank beer and filmed Mickeys and Sobe bombs.

Holy Fawk! That thing was moving under its own power again! :flipoff2:

Let's go wheelin' soon!

Edit: And I didn't get a damn thing done, except for a quick unplanned U-joint replacement. Had family in town. :(

I got to do a shackle reversal before I go out again. The first time wasnt so bad, but about the fourth time, I quit having fun and just called it a day. :shaking:

I did my second this weekend. First time was fabricated and based on the Weed/Maulis design. It worked perfectly, but was an effort to install.
The second is a a D and C set-up modified for 2.5" wide springs and 1.5 ID bushings. The D and C set-up was a helluva lot easier to install and has a cleaner look.

I'm going to have a Ofest/wrench-a-thon at my place in a few weeks. With 8-10 guys attacking my rig I should make major progress in one day.

I bought a new shifter for the new rig and helped Scoutilac fab up some brake stuff on his new rig.
Built absolutely nothing of my own. :(

What shifter did you get?? I have been looking into them and I am thinking I may just save some money up and go and Art Carr......wait a minute....new rig??? Whats up with that

P.S. I did jack crap on the rig. Cleaned up the garage on Saturday and went to look at shifters, then hung out with college friends. Sunday drove to Kelso to look at a trailer, then wasted the rest of the day.

I bought a SCS shifter off E bay. Not new but new to me.
Art Carr would be my first choice if you can actually get them to sell you one then they cost a arm and a leg.

New rig as in the old one is getting wore out and what I want to do to it I think starting over is the best way to go. I'll be re using just about everything off the old scout but the chassis. :)

I went and picked up about 60 appliances after a local shop we have a contract with had a sale, then spent all weekend reclaiming freon, stripping machines, and hauling the hulls to the junkyard, only to have the reclaimer die with 4 machines left, and to add insult to injury, the guy we sell the freon to in medford called this morning to tell us he won't buy it anymore, but if we give him the 30 pound cans and a couple 20's he'll take it...

hopefully a new buyer up in eugene will give us more than the old guy

Cleaned the shop. It needed it.

Stared at the front wheelwells of the rig, and dreamed of coil-overs. :D Got some of the parts for a front disc conversion from a buddy.

Finished welding up a new stand for my bench grinder so I can actually use it. Been prepping the shop for new destruction on the rig this winter.

Decided that I not only don't like my swampers, I hate them.

No, there are bricks in this world that are more round. The trip to the trail is uncomfortable to say the least.

I like them where they belong, in the dirt. :D

:laughing:Sounds like you bought them used. Snoopy's would flatspot if I parked it anywhere for a long time, but they'd run out after a mile or two.

Decided that I not only don't like my swampers, I hate them.

Feel free to dispose of them at my place.

34x9.50 TSLs would go nicely on some 15x7 aluminum wheels I have..

Swampers have no business being driven on the street. The thumpity-thumpity ride for the first two miles is part of the fun, though. :D

Rides much nicer on the trailer, of course.. which brings me to...

Trailer with too-narrow of fenders for a fullwidth.. fenders battered from still putting fullsizes on it anyhow..

After the torch, grinder, hammer, and cleaning the shop enough to get the trailer inside (not much room to spare, but it's been raining and cold)

Early stages..

Still need to add the ramped portions on either end, and the extra decking.. then do the other side and paint..

edit

More progress made.. (no, not Scout tech, but I use it to haul my Scouts..)

Went and gathered up the Scout.. Andy at Six States did a fine job (thanks dude), I'm such a lazy fawk any more (I just needed a break?)... I just had to finish up some loose ends on some brake lines, install the new shifter boots for the 205's twin stick and adjust some linkage on the 203.. Probably need to bleed the brakes one more time, the one cutting brake is a little soft. Also need to grind on some yolks before I go to Moab at the end of the month (its been a couple of years  )

Not a damn thang. Ain't touched the Scout since May.

Did get the Moser 12 bolt and BMR control arms and the Hooker headers and SLP Loudmouth in my sons '01 Camaro SS last week. :)

I came down with pneumonia and Saturday the FIL had a massive stroke.

I haven't even got my hay cut yet.

Another three weeks behind.

I'm now officially 5 YEARS behind.

Fawk It!
