I've got a very tired C6 with a good 205. I've been cruising my local classifieds and found zillions of cheap C6's but they are all from the 80's with 208's. I know they have the same bolt pattern, but are they clocked the same? Do I need to be concerned about the spline count/diameter and shaft stick out?

IIRC it should be of no issue to swap them. However even if I'm wrong, you still have your C6 and adapter so you could just swap from the adapter out with the 205 and be golden either way. :smokin:

You stand to only win if the C6 is cheap and works. I know here they can be a pain in the ass to find. Hell, I got $75 for one that needed a rebuild so. :grinpimp:

the tcases bolt up but you need to notch out the 208 adaptor for the 205 shift linkage... i'll see if i can dig up the pic

here you go. the 205 adaptor is the one with the notch on the left side of the adaptor.

yeah..i tear the fawk out of my 208 all the time. i dont know how those ranger t cases hold up so well.

but alot of the earluer 80's c6 trannies may still be notched on the ext housing...so it might just be cake.

FYI, there are two C6 adaptors out there, a long one and a short one and two C6 output shafts, a short one and a long one. short with short, long with long (wow, taht's deep), you need the adaptor that matches the transmission. one adaptor is about 5" long, the other is about 8.5". SO, either buy the tranny with the adaptor or make sure there's the right amount of shaft sticking out of the transmission. They both wind up with the same stickout past teh adaptor.

I've got a 8.5 adapter/shaft on my C6 now. Honestly I'm kinda hoping to find a 5". I may have some figuring to do for the 205 shifter, but I ain't afraid. The shorter adapter will let me flip my front springs around, moving the front axle forward several inches without needing a new driveshaft. I've got a 14 bolt ready to put on the back, so I'll need a longer rear DS anyway.
