I am putting a waggy front dana 44 under my Jeep YJ wrangler, I have no extra money to finish my project so Im trying to make stock steering work the best it can, I put on the tie rod but the drag link it to short to reach the pitman arm, Can I make a cutsom bracket to weld to my tie rod so that the draglink will reach, This is not an everyday driver, I just dont want it to be unsafe, Also has any one done this? Any pics of any brackets, I really dont wanna have to but a flattop knuckle and steering arm if at all possible, any help at all is welcome thanks guys and gals.oh yeah its spring over with 3inch springs if that makes any difference. :usa:

Better option would be to cut the draglink in half and then sleeve it, find some appropriate tubing that is a tight fit and then weld the sleeve in place. I used a jack handle from a floor jack that was toast for both my tierod and draglink, temporary solution until I finalize the Dana 44 that is going in.

I am assuming that you have adjusted the drag link out a ways to reach the pitman arm. Correct? It should work fine the way it is. The drag link angle will not be very good but it would work. How short is it? What pitman arm are you using?

Thats what I am thinking too. No I have never used this setup for more than moving the vehicle up and down the driveway. It will work but this is why people end up with Z-link. So that the drag link clears the spring and then steps up to the pitman arm. It can work but you will want the drag link to be as parallel to the tie rod as possible. Less bump steer.

Oh I dont really give a fawk about bump steer, since its a non daily driver, Im wondering if the draglink will hit but I dont have any weight on the front axle so Its hard to say at this point, but I hope it works cause Im broke as a joke and I just wanna get my Jeep rolling you know, Ill do high steer ASAP after I get that hunk of junk rolling, thanks for quick help guy and gals.:usa:

My stock waggy draglink worked perfect... but I have it SUA. Even so, with 4.5 inch springs and 1-1/4 inch extended shackles and no high steer that puts it about where it would be for stock SOA... I think adjusting should fix it.

Good luck,
Jake

yeah I am in the process of doing this swap as well, and going SOA. It looks like the draglink will come under contact with the pass. spring with the weight on the springs, and it definitely looks like it will hit if you turn the wheel to the right. I figure a couple small bends in it and it should be routed out of the way of the spring.
