What is the width of a waggy axle. I did a search and didn't come up w/ much. Waggy's seem to be to easiest source of d44s and don't look to be much wider than my XJ. Just wondering how close the lengths are, and how easy the swap is. I'm prepared to change shock mounts, etc.

The search does work (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16050&highlight=wagoneer+dana+44+WMS) It's been discussed 3412341234 times. Good luck

Most Rear D44s (waggy) are actually 58" WMS to WMS.
Your XJ rear is around 61" WMS to WMS.
Yeah they are actually shorter but not by much. And most of them are off-set buy about 6" in the rear, so watch out for those too.
And yeah the search works... try again.

Well if you are prepared to change axles I should certainly hope that you are prepared to change "shock mounts"!
Look into Scout II D44s. I got mine for free :D but you can usually find them for less than $200 if you don't have your fingers in the IH scene, but those with IH buddies can often pick them up for $50. At least that is my experience. It is a VERY easy swap too. Plus the pumpkin is centered so the shafts are of equal length. Meaning that if you carry only one spare, it will work with either side. The tubes are only .188, but a simple truss fixes that problem. If you can't find any more info after searching, PM me and I can help you out.

Well alot of the axle swaps will be alittle bit shorter. Just like the 9" and 8.8 they are both around an inch shorter than the XJ's but they work really nicely and you can always add a spacer if you need to.......peace
