That's a pretty big cutter for an R8................
When I did my 14Bolt I threaded bolts into the cover holes to fill the holes for welding.....
If you are cutting any deeper you might want to think about it.......

Damn Sean, that's looking good- for a bunch of missing metal! How about a pic of the finished ring gear too.

That's a good idea about putting the bolts in, thanks. I had the pics of the ring gear up, but the photo sharing site I was using is fawkin' me. I'll get em up again soon. Gotten any farther with your rear link design Jon?

yeah well, we know how backwards you canucks are :flipoff2: I took another .400 off her tonight and started fabbin' the bottom plate out of 5/8 stock. I'm cutting a channel in it for gear clearance and I'm only going to put one bolt in the bottom of the cover. I've got to move one of the other bolt holes as I'm 2/3 into the existing one.

Did you actually machine the ring gear?

EasyXJ

yep, took .270 off the radius of the OD of the gear on a jig grinder.

i thought gears were surface hardened. Do they get much weaker if you grind them? The pinion probably doesnt even touch it so it should not matter.
