Whats up with this kit?
http://www.rubiconexpress.com/images/RE5600.jpg
It has been advertised for last 2 years and it is still not available. I am really interested in it for a buddies rig.
Does anyone know who the test rigs for this kit are and whats the feed back ie hadling side hills steep hills up and down on road and overall feel. I would like to switch to some bilstien rock krawler coil overs up front and leave the rear 1/4 elliptical

This is the info off the website.
The new Rubicon Jeep YJLA (Long Arm) Suspension System is innovative as much as it is trend setting. The YJLA design is unlike anything on the market today, with performance mannerisms that set the standard. The heart of the kit is a replacement crossmember assembly that allows the use of 36-inch long control arms to locate front and rear axles. The stock leaf springs are replaced with elliptical springs front and rear. The result is a highly responsive suspension that offers near perfect geometry for unrivaled off-road performance. This is due to the longer control arms’ ability to maintain desired suspension arm and steering geometry.
Installation of this kit will completely replace your stock suspension system. Welding is required to install new brackets to the axles. If you are considering an axle upgrade you may want to consider doing so at the time of installation. The use of a CV rear driveshaft is required and sold separately. Rubicon Extreme-Duty mono-tube shocks are recommended for maximum control and performance. Shocks are sold separately.

I talked to pete on monday and he said in 6 months it "SHOULD" be ready for distrabution.

It'd be alot better to build yourself a kit. I would rather go w/ coils/coilovers than quarter eliptic.

RE's products are great, but I bet a shop could build you a kit for roughly the same price or cheaper than RE's kit. :D

The real problem is building something that car rockcrawl well and something that drives down the street well are two different things sometimes. You have to look at it from RE's point of view. At least half of the kits are going to be bought by mallcrawlers who thinking this will make it handle better on high speed turns. :shaking: Its called liability and people in the US are sue happy. Every RE product I ever bought never broke on the trail. If I want it to last thats what I buy. RE will release it when the time is right have patience or build your own.

Yes I realize the liability of it and don't expect much out of a 1/4 eliptic kit on road but it would be nice to know if is squirly as hell just going to the( ha ha) greocery store :flipoff2:.

I know RE makes sick ass kits but I would like to build the suspension my self but the forementioned liability of the jeep not being mine and a buddies friend.

he trailers it to the trail but still like to cruise locally and maybe 2hrs free way trips. and if I screw up its on me and I don't want that on me I would do it to my rig but not a buddies. so I hope you understand were I and coming from.

I talked to schaffers and they said by thanksgiving and they don't sell the coilovers with the kit but I cna get the bilstien rockkrawlers coilovers for $299 and they recomended the 12" travel and that should be plenty.

I don't know maybe just a good ol' SOA with waggies or OME springs

Conzilla, check on the web for speedjeep.com. There was a link on that crappy site for manufacturers, and they use a very similar setup with leaf elipticals for racing. The RE Extreme Duty setup with leafs is pretty sweet and I was running it for a long time. Again, building a custom setup will probably run best, around the same cost, or lower, and better to your specs.

also consider using XJ springs for a spring over or under for that matter. They are 6in longer and super flexy. I run the RE 4.5'' XJ spring under in front on mine and a 3 link coil setup in the rear. The front flexes almost as much as the rear.
