Does anybody know if you can take a 4wd 5-speed Getrag and bolt a 2wd tail housing on it, or bolt on a 205, or 208?? I have a div. case, so I can go either way. This is going in my 62 suburban for a d/d, no wheeling, and no big tires, inless you call 33s big. It will have a 350 in it, nothing special. I really want a 5 speed, looked for a Clark, but don't know anything about them, and can't find one other than the Getrags. I think I can get the Getrag for nothing.

The 'tailhousing' is half the transmission. Little more work than taking the tailhousing off an automatic.
output shaft may be a different length and spline for 4wd vs. 2wd.

man please dont use that getrag trans in your stuff. there a bunch of ticking bombs. I've killed 3 in two years. stock FI 350 2wd with 275/60/15 on it . i really wanted one in my 4X4 driver( mild 383 4.10s on 33's ) but after these turds vacated my truck , an nv4500 doesnt look so expensive. If you really must know , in the 4x4 version the getrag will accept a late model 241 or a 4spd 208 32 spline i think ? it bolts straight to the back of the getrag with no adapters. Its also exactly the same length as a 700r4 with a 208 adapter

the dodge getrags had married NP205's (pass drop). i was thinking about this swap too, and it seems the owners relationships with the tranny is extreme love or hate.
