Never had a L/C before so I don't have any clue if this is a diamond in the rough or just another lost cause. I forget what the model designation is though. It is an '84 with 4 doors. The back hatch has two parts, the glass part goes up and the tailgate drops down. It has a 6 cyl and 4 spd w/ 4WD of course. The paint is still the factory tan with the multi-colored sticker accents. The body I'd say is about 98% straight with the exception of some minor dings but no dents with real creases. The carpet kit, front seats, and other minor interior pieces and in pretty bad shape. There are seatbelts for 5 but the driver's lower half doesn't work. The headliner is pratically perfect and the back seat, which folds down, is in okay shape. All of the interior fabric appears to be original. All of the doors open and close fine and the locks, windows, handles, all work fine. Under the hood wasn't too pretty. The cold air intake hose has a big hole in it sucking in under hood air. The block is wet on both sides with oil seepage. The carb appears to be new or rebuilt. The radiator is new. The belt to the A/C is not there so I have no idea of its operating condition but all other components appear to be all there. The engine started with two pumps of the pedal and the choke out. After having run for a few minutes, and even after bringing it off of choke, there seems to be ticking coming from under the valve cover. I can hear what sounds like a little bit of exhaust leak too. Not major but not what I would think would be the normal amount of exhaust noise. When driving straight down the street the wheel is turned to the left about 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn. The wheel shakes side to side when driving as well. The brakes grab okay but the pedal seems to go down a bit too far. The "go pedal" doesn't seem to have much travel and even with the pedal to the floor it takes a bit for the hamsters to catch up. The clutch seems to engage okay shifting up and down through the gears. The tranny shifted okay as well with no grinding, humming, etc. Reverse made a heavy whirring sound when used. The t-case shifted relatively well with no major pushing but wasn't sloppy either. I put 4H & 4L through the paces and didn't hear to much that I felt was of any major consequence. When in 4L the drivetrain did have a heavier gear noise to it. The P/S pump doesn't whine at all when the wheels are turned to max in each direction. I don't recall the tire size, they may have been stock-I dunno, but the itty bitty tach read 2500 rpm at 65 mph in 4th gear. Oh yeah, if I remember right the odometer had about 115,000 miles on it. Looking under it I didn't find any rock rash, gouges, streaking, or any other tell tale signs of blatant abuse. The price tag on it was $3995. They said the rock bottom price they would take is about $3500. I told him I didn't think it was worth more than $3000.

What I am looking for is your honest opinion of the value of this kewl lookin cruzah and if there are any other things I should be looking at or taking a better look at. Thanks all!:beer: Keith :jeep:

Tigger, check out ebay. Right now, they have 3 FJ60's for sale that were "newly"posted.
#1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601489106)
#2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601485531)
#3 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601483783)

Compare these with what you are looking at, and watch what they go for. Thats the best way to see what they go for.

Personally, $3,000....I'd do it. Sounds like it needs valves adjusted, minor exh. work, replace gaskets, maybe brakes....not too much high tech stuff.

Maybe you could take it thru emissions before you buy? (I'm assuming you have emissions where you live). They have alot of emission crap under the hood...pain in the ass.

If you buy it, I'll make you a screamin' good deal on the air intake...

Mine wines in reverse too...get used to it.

Sounds like any old FJ60 to me. Everything you mention mine does as well! The price seems very reasonable.

It is official ... it's an FJ60 !!
The interior looks like the one in #2.
? - Do the FJ60s have the problem with the birfs breaking left and right:question:
If I can't get them to come down to $3000 then I guess I'll really have to see if I want to fork out the extra $500-$1000 that they want for it. Where can I go to see all of the really kewl stuff I can do with a 60?

Thanks again!! Keep the good stuff coming!:beer:

FJ60's have the slightly stronger birf, same as the minitrucks. With 33's, you shouldn't have problems. With 35's it may be time for Newfields or those cryogenic things.

IMO, you've got a good price going, especially with that many miles.

Check the links on my site and run thru ALL the tech. Much of what applies to the 40 series and 55 series also works or is close to the 60 as well. It might take you a day-two to run thru all the links, but you'll learn tons. (And sound edumacated when post questions later....lol)
