: More fab work, cage, bumpers, etc
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:43 PM Here are a few pics of things I've been working on. The first couple are from the auto tranny swap in mudmongers rig, so far it's turning out nicely. Just waiting on the OTT t-case to finish it off.
This is the passenger tunnel, widened it using a couple stock sammy jacks.
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:45 PM here's the shifter, out of a chevy nova.
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:47 PM here's the tranny, 4wd 3sp auto from a kick. There is a tranny crossmember going in there, even though with the kicker3 you really don't need one. It will bolt to the stock location (where the two bolts are hanging down).
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:51 PM Here's a front bumper. This is the way he wanted it, lets the winch sit in a nice cradle. Too low for my taste though. The little tabs are for a tow bar.
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:55 PM another of the bumper. Once he gets a winch in there we'll add some type of hoop/stinger to it.
sh996 09-28-2004, 04:59 PM here's the cage. It's nothing fancy, goes from front to rear rather than a A hoop like a dave cage. It's just tacked in place for now.
sh996 09-28-2004, 05:02 PM another view, sorry its dark, I had my moto-goggles on :flipoff2:
sh996 09-28-2004, 05:05 PM Last one, rear bumper. Again, nothing fancy. Boy, rust forms fast when left outside overnight in the rain :shaking: .
mrbogger 09-28-2004, 07:31 PM looks good :flipoff2:

zuknstien 09-28-2004, 08:52 PM I did the same thing with the tunnel and used a shifter consel out of a dodge d50. It worked pretty good on my big ole MB tranny.

Tusker 09-28-2004, 09:49 PM Nice job on the cage. The bumper looks good too, but I agree with you. Looks like a rock-catcher.
flexmonger2 09-28-2004, 11:47 PM Good work on the cage Keith. The rear bumper looks good, did you use a plasma to cut the holes or did you get a RRO make a bumper kit? The front bumper looks ok, but not my style for form and fit on a sammy. Let me know when you guys get the OTT tcase in.
sh996 09-29-2004, 10:25 AM Good work on the cage Keith. The rear bumper looks good, did you use a plasma to cut the holes or did you get a RRO make a bumper kit? The front bumper looks ok, but not my style for form and fit on a sammy. Let me know when you guys get the OTT tcase in.
Make a bumper kit....sheesh, give me some credit :shaking:
:flipoff2:
Nope, I made it from scratch, used my torch to cut the holes. Just need to clean it back up and paint it now. I think we will hopefully get the t-case back and work on it next weekend, I'm sure when it's done Aaron will be letting you know to go do some testing.

bob large 09-29-2004, 04:18 PM Cool. :D
I’m going to be looking at an engine/trany swap within the next year. (After I get the cage and interior done/ and after I get the axels/leafs/ bumpers/exc/exc/exc/exc) :flipoff2:
sh996 09-29-2004, 10:50 PM Sweet Keith! A couple more and I'll let you put in an auto in mine:D
Good work on the cage too :)
Hopefully I'll get to do a fancier, more elaborate cage here in the near future :D .
Just let me know when you plan on coming up for the tranny swap :p
Nate95 09-30-2004, 12:05 PM Lookin good Keith!!
sh996 09-30-2004, 10:15 PM Here's the finished cage. Well, almost finished, it still needs a couple braces welded in the corners...
sh996 09-30-2004, 10:17 PM another view...
earnie 09-30-2004, 10:33 PM What size tubing? I am going to steal that design I think. But with more tubing in the rear portion of the tub.
moto261 10-01-2004, 04:29 AM looks good where did you get the idea for the bars that run from the floors to the stock bar :flipoff2: looks good though
:massey:
sh996 10-02-2004, 02:25 PM looks good where did you get the idea for the bars that run from the floors to the stock bar :flipoff2: looks good though
:massey:
Got that idea from a couple different people, but can't remember their names cause they are losers :flipoff2: . The bends ended up being a little different than you told me, but not by much. Thanks for the help Dan!!
Ernie: It's 1.5" .120 wall hrew.
Bullseye 10-03-2004, 10:05 AM Rear bumper is awesome. If you ever find time to post the pattern for that baby let me know. I ain't too proud to copy a good piece of work.
Here's to ya
sh996 10-03-2004, 09:21 PM Bullseye:
No pattern for the bumper, just measured the distance of the rear end (I think it was 54"), it's a 2x4 1/8" thick, cut and angled the corners 4" back and 2" up, then measured the holes for the lights where it looked good. That's it in a nutshell :p . really just test fit it up there and cut the mounting plates based on that.
