I just bought a Honda 400ex and was wondering how well quads do in snow. Anyone have any experience with snow riding and where to ride? Thanks.

It must have been a good day for Honda, because while I was there they (The shop I was at) sold several bikes as well.

I was thinking of getting that same bike within a month or so and I was just wondering if you two could give an estimate price and where you bought the one in Sac. at? I was thinking of getting it for the Sand!!!

I got an "Out the Door" email quote from www.lacycles.com for the 2002 Honda 400ex. They quoted me just under $6000 with tax, license and registration. They would ship it to my door for another $100. So I would have paid $6100 from them. MSRP is $5700 alone. I then took that quote to Carmichael Honda and they beat it by $100. I also bought the 4 year extended warranty so my total out the door was $6400.

Now if you have cash then the best thing would be to buy a used one like a 2000 or 2001 model and it would probably be $1000 less at least. I have seen used for sale for like $4500 and they have been modified. I didn't have the luxury to pay with cash so I financed a new one for 4 year @ 8.9%. My payments are $160/month.

Hope this helps and just for the record, I love this quad. This thing is a torque monster. Wheelies are a breeze and the chassis and suspension are top notch.

How deep of snow do U plan on going through? Anything over 6" could start to get hard to ride in. We have riden about 18" of snow, but it was a fight

Unless the snow is packed, don't bother. As soon as the chassis starts to hit, you won't go much further.

Carmicheal Honda won't deal with you unless you get a written offer from another dealer. I got a quote from them at $6500. Ouch.

Thanks for the info, I went to Roseville cycle on Tue. and they didn't even have one that I could drool over! But they said there were getting in about 12 from LA on Thusday!!! The same pricing that you got over at Carmiachel. I plan on getting one when I get my jeep paid off my credit card.... I only have about $2000 left.:) :)

The other thing about getting the new Honda is that after you purchase it you can go to a free ATV rider safety class but get this... Honda will send you $100 check in the mail after completion. I could care less about the class but for a free $100 I will take it.

Let us know when you get it and we will have to hook up sometime to go riding.

I got Carmichael Honda down to $6100 out the door so I took it. Put on a pipe, K&N and jetted. Paddle tires are on the way. Sand Mountain for President's weekend. :D

Too cool.:smokin: Sand Mountain is a blast. I used to ride there frequently when I was stationed at Naval Air Station Fallon during my Navy years. Have fun!

Hey I found a place that build a corversion kit for Quads for the snow.
SNO TRAXX (http://www.snotraxx.com)
looks pretty cool and actually a bit more stable then a snomobile
but pretty pricey. I seen a couple of prices for them from 2500-3000
