Hello all, I have 10 bolts front and rear, other than the obvious "something's gone terribly afoul" feeling I have, what happened?
I walked out to the truck today at lunch (its pouring rain today) and saw a dark spot on the rear carrier, the closer I got to it I could see it was a hole. Looks like it has been shot with a .45...from the inside!
I was able to drive it home, didn't think that would happen, but at least it's in my driveway.

Any suggestions, maybe start hunting around for the beloved 14bolt?

probably a ring gear bolt trying to get it's freedom.

Well, that doesnt sound good. Reminds me of my 8lug dana 44 that had a detroit truetrac in it. I went to change the diff fluid and pieces of ring gear and truetrac oozed out too. Yikes. Too bad its not the front then you could start looking for a D60 and 14 bolt. I think someone is selling one around here (a ff14bolt with disks and 5.13s) . Maybe someone did shoot at you? Either way it sucks. Good Luck.

Well, I had a look and the ring gear teeth look a little chewed up, and the magnetic plug in the cover looked like a black doughnut, lots of metal shavings. All the teeth are still there, so what might have gone looking for another home via my dif cover?

Did you check the pinion and spider gear teeth?

Can't see the pinon teeth, but the spiders all look good. I cleaned it out with brake cleaner, but did not disassemble anything, as I have no idea what I am doing or looking for while in the carrier.

Whats your gear ratio? I may have one laying aroud

The ring gear has 11 41 stamped on it

If desert dueler doesn't have the R/P you need, let me know. I've got a set of 3.73's sitting in my garage for sale. They look new, kinda made me wish I was still using them :D:D but not real hard. I like my 14 much better.

BTW, almost forgot, :D I've got a 10 bolt rear bare housing that I will GIVE to you if you pay shipping. The thing don't weigh much at all, being empty and all :D

I just threw away a set of 3.73s last week :mad: They were out of my front axle. Anayways if you get a set and need someone to put them in let me know I can do them on the side.

Got any suggestions on where to start looking for the new set-up?

I have looked around quite a bit in the junk yards and havent had too much luck finding a 3/4 ton truck for the conversion. I have seen a few 2wd ones for the rear axle but nothing to convert the front to 8 lug. Best bet id to look in the newspaper on Sunday.
