Another newbie type quesion...

I'm looking for rock rails for a '93 K1500 w/ extended cab and full bed. This long-ass wheelbase is killing me. Anyone fab anything this size, or does someplace actually sell something this long?

I don't need bulletproof rails, just something for a little rock protection. This thing is justa daily driver tow rig but sees some off-road use for hunting/fishing/lumbering.

Also looking for any kind of skids. All I know is where to get Jeep stuff, not GM plates.

check out the K5 Blazer rocker knockers the guy made/installed on www.offroad.com (might be a "-" in there, I forget). Pretty good idea. You *gain* clearance, and from what I understand they are plenty strong, especially considering your specific needs. If you know someone who can chop your current rockers off (plasma cutter?)...and weld the box steel tube on in its place, you could prolly do the whole project for a LOT less than what some aftermarket rock sliders would cost.

just an idea,

J

I was thinking about just doing some plating on the rockers instead of rails and losing clearance. The reason for wanting rails is that my fiance is short and can barely step into the truck...yea, I know . I was thinking a 2x4 rail would provide a small step.

yet another bonus of the chop-the-rockers-off-and-weld-in-steel-box-tube mod....the height that the person entering the vehicle has to step up to get in doesnt change at all...even though you have gained clearance! =p Of course, it'd be hella easy to use some of those "U" shaped steps that any auto parts place has....bolt them on so they are easy to remove for when ya wheel and u r set.
