Has anyone tried this combo yet? If so what is the entire length and did you run into any problems? I am thinking oabout trying this with a stroked 351W (408)in my wifes 78 Bronco. Tired of the 400 and would like fuel injection and highway drivability with low gearing. Sounded like a pretty good combination.
thanks in advance

I haven't seen it before but you just need to make sure it can handle the power of a 408. I'm looking at building my 351 into a 408 this summer. I'm projecting 600 ponies or so N/A and I don't know about you, but I have a skinny pedal problem as well. So I guess I'm sayin' make sure the 1356 and the E40d can hold the power. Unless you're just building a very very mild 408W.
Keep us posted though. Phil

I don't think the E4OD or 1356 will have any problems handling the power. Both came behind powerstrokes and 460's.

Just make sure to keep the tranny cool and it sounds like it will be a hell of a setup then. :smokin:

Well I disagree. By the time the 1356 sees the increased torque from the HP engine AND the 203, the weak link will be the chain or magnesium case of the 1356. If you are going the doubler route, I would stick to the 203/205. It has been proven bulletproof.
The e40d is a POS IMO. I killed 2 before I swapped a ZF in.

the 13-56 will take it, no questions there...
I've YET to see pics of one killed/broken chain.
Thats excluding ones that suffered from the pump comming loose, or the pics of one in a JY(floating around here) that was killed by a huge rock..
Only problem I would be worried about is length.. that will be a long ass combo..

I would think you would snap off the rear output. I put the aluminum one in the middle and it held up for about a year, but I finally got bound up tight when crawling and instead of turning the tires it blew the case in two. or was five, it was a bunch of pieces! It was fun while it lasted though.
mine was a 208 to a 205 though. I think it 13 or 15 inches the way I did it.

The 13-56 will take ALOT of abuse, no doubt about it... There's lots of diesel guys who abuse the hell out of them without any real problems.
As for comparing it to a 208, that's not a fair comparison, the 1356 is in effect a 1-ton t-case(I do think that the PTO equipped ones were heavier built however), while the 208 is a light duty unit that rarely made it's way behind the 460 or diesels before it was replaced.

thanks for the replys. I have never heard of a 208 being used as a doubler. Do you have any pics of your Bronco? What other mods have you made ksbronco?
Thanks,
Rob
