I have the original buckest in my 54 Willys, and they are torn to shreds.

I like them just fine so i was wondering what an average re-apolstering job would cost for those size seats?

I live in a small town and there is only a couple of places that apolster, and I think they charge too much.

now that's hardcore rockcrawling tech if i've ever seen it

it would help if you said what the shops in your town quoted you.
it all depends on teh material and style you go with. duct tape works well.

A buddy and I made some with vinyl and a sewing machine and foam. Used the original seat frames:

Wire wheeling seat ;)

We put the foam in a big garbage bag and then used a shop vac to compress the foam. Then we put that in the seat and worked it in.

This is what holds the seat cushin on the seat

Nice stitchery, there blake :flipoff2: seriously, nothing better than doing it yourself. That is excellent!

But if you don't want to dump alot of time or money on replacement low back seats, look for aftermarket replacements. THey are the most affordable and simplest seat out there. This example, one of many (http://www.thejeep.com/onlinecatalog/p1.htm) lists those seats for under $120 each. Your time has value too.

Good luck -

84, if I remember you have the 3B, right? Just some info, the older flatfender seats are narrower than CJ5 seats avaliable as lowbacks, so you would have to modify the mounts/seats to get them to bolt down, and would probably interfere with the underseat tank and pass. toolbox. I got quoted about 100 bucks a seat to re-upholster in marine grade black vinyl, new wood boards, and foam, but thats low because I've known the interior shop owner for a while and he's done quite a bit of work on our old 'vette and ramcharger. There are some places that sell kits to redo the seats in canvas - a la army jeep style. Don't remember how much they are though.
But duct tape works well. Thats how mine are upholstered right now :D

BTW: Blake, are those seats from Dales heep from over on Lone Star? thats a DAMN nice lookin job on the seats. How do they feel, has the foam bunched up or collapsed any?

You need to un-apolster (would that be downholster?) the helper on the right, and post LOTS of pics of the process :flipoff2:

Yeah those aer Dale's seats. The foam wasn't seat foam, I dont know where it came from. Knowing dale he probably found it at the dumpster at the apartment complex. The seats havn't collapsd any, but the Willys hasn't had much seat time.
