No results on search.....Anyone converted a 6 lug Dana 44 or 10 bolt to 8 lug? I have a 76 front 44 and need to put the 8-lug hubs on it. What year did they have the small spindle on them? Havent looked at mine btw. I believe I only need Hubs, backing plates, calipers, studs. Ant input fellas...

assuming your staying with small bearing spindles...... you need the 3/4 ton caliper/hub assembly w/ studs and the 3/4 ton backing plates. your calipers, spindles and bearings are the same. if you want to convert to big bearing, your going to need new spindles and bearings, and you'll need to get the big bearing hub/rotor assemblies.

carquest has the hub/rotor assemblies (big bearing) brand new for 67 bucks a piece w/ studs and races already in em.

I just did this conversion on my truck not too long ago. I got an axle out of a 74, but used the axle under my 77 to keep the same axle tube diameter. When everything was apart, we checked out the differences between the two, and the only thing that we could find different were the bearing hubs (of course) and the inner bearings had a little larger outside diameter. Other than that, the backing plate was bigger to allow for the bigger rotor, but everything else seemed identical.

Anyone have the part number and or a cheap place to find a spindle.I'm not sure what I need But it's a 76,d 44 with the external hubs and eight lugs I found there are 3 different ones and im not sure what I need.Thanks

The external hub 8 lug had a spindle all to itself.

if you really wanted things quick and easy you could always just get the lug conversion kit from Billet or someone that just acts like a wheel spacer and changes the lug pattern. i'm not sure that this is a whole lot more inexpencive but i think it's less than $575.

Almost $600 to convert over to 8-lug when you can buy a complete 8-lug front axle for $100 :confused:

When I converted my old 6-lug 10-bolt over to 8-lug several years ago, I bought everything from the knuckles out for $50 from the junkyard (the guy literally torched the knuckles off the axle and gave me everything including the shafts). If you get everything including the spindles then just bolt everything back on and you don't have to worry about mismatching parts and bearings (spindles should interchange between axles without issues).
