What TC is in an '84 S-10 stock and what would cause it to not shift into 4WD? Lever pulls back but will not stay in to engage front driveshaft. I'm thinking linkage.

Hey Eric, no question is stupid, that's how you learn. You could have a 207 which is a light duty t- case or the 231c which is similiar to the ones in '87 jeeps. Your best bet is to look for the tag or get as many casting numbers off the t- case as you can and ask the dealership.

It's probably an NP207, there should be a round tag on the back.
The paoblem sounds like linkage if the lever will not stay in 4wd. It could be a bent shift fork or something else inside the case.
If the lever was not popping out, but the front just was'nt engauging, I would say it's the vacume actuator or the cable.
