I am looking for some info on putting coliovers on the front of my TJ. Pictures and write-ups and first hand knowlegde would be great. I know CJ did coliovers all the way around on his TJ but I can't find any really good close-ups of the setup.

Thanks :flipoff2:

If you want some pictures of Skyjackers Jeep with the coil overs on it I can send some to you.. There from November's SEMA show in Las Vegas.

EDIT: After noticing the extreme amount of website visits from this website our webmaster has added even more information and pictures of the coil overs... check it out!!

What I did in the front is this....

I used 1.75" tubing, bent it 180*, then bent the legs into the frame. Once you determine how high you want your shock mount to be, you can figure out how tall to make the legs.

I drilled holes in the frame using a hole saw and slid the part that was bent into the frame into the holes as far as I could. I then welded that up...then added a back brace from behind the shock mount down to the frame. I then just used tabs under the tubing to mount the shock. It worked out well and was pretty strong setup.

It took a while to cut the factory upper spring perches/shock mounts off. Since Skyjacker puts the upper coilover mount below the factory spring perch, the length of the shock is limited. For instance...I was running 39.5's with 14" shocks that equaled the same as about a 5" bolt on lift. I measured against a stock TJ with 5" of lift or so....If i was using the skyjacker setup, there is no way I could have run that long of a shock, I'd guess somewhere between 6-10" of travel is all you could fit.

Hey I found a picture which shows the hoop kinda clearly, should get a good enough idea if you want to do something similar.

No doubt, it's sweet, but I've been looking at poser shots of this thing for over a year...Will there ever be any real wheeling shots, or is this basically an "Off Road magazine" special, if you get my drift.... Not trying to start anything, but this is the only shot I've seen of it that wasn't parked on a well manicured grass lawn. *Putting on flamesuit*

Ugh, I've said it before and I've said it again. I built the Jeep while I was at school last semester. Driving 5 hours home every weekend isn't my idea of fun so I had to wait until I got out in mid May to really start on it. Well, I didn't get done until around mid to late July and by then I had missed all of our wheeling trips. At the beginning of august I had to go back to school, so it didn't leave me much time to take it anywhere real fun. I've had it out a few times on stuff around where I live but I don't feel obligated to report back here everytime I go somewhere.

Anyway, now I've transfered schools and I'm living at home for this semester while I figure out what I'm gonna do and I can work on it whenever I want. I'll be ready to goto Rosser roundup and then to tellico for a week on our annual club trip in May.

Kinda tired of the really generic and un original do you wheel question...sorry I wasn't able to work on my vehicle during the off-season. If you really care go to my website and you'll find plenty of pics of my Jeep in action before the coilovers.
