I was doing some pump mods today after waiting along time. I used the Instructions from TDR wesite and basically I have a major issue.
After turning up the Full Power setting by rotating the diaphram my truck will turn over and run for about 1 sec. then die........
I think I have lost the dead center mark and I really need to get a numer for Gunracer or some who is familiar with the 92 CTD pump mods.
This is my friends computer so calling me ( 530) 647-0205 would be the best way. I will also come back and check this thread in a while.
Any help is appreciated.
I knew I should'nt have fawked with this thing! :(
Thanks, Kevin

Yep he doesnt have a connection at home either.
We were on the phone allot Sat and yesterday . Seems as though we cant figure out the problem with my CTD. It'll start but wont run longer that a second and then die.
I did the pump mod by pulling the diaphram and rotating it. After that I put it back together and no start from then on...................tried everything too. Checked all electrical, and put the diaphram back at the stock setting. Mike (gunracer1) was even baffeled :( We even cracked the fuel line at the pump and had plen ty of fuel.
She'll be getting towed down to Orangevale Diesel on Wensday to have them look at it. :(
I know I should have never fawked with that thing. :shaking:

when you pulled the pin and diaphram did you take the hole thing out?
some times the pin inside that rides against the pin attached to the diaphram gets stuck
when it gets stuck I think it pushes against part of the governer assembly (its made to add fuel for boost enrichment) but I think it mught do what your saying if its stuck
try taking the diaphram and attached pin all the way out then look down inside the hole that the pin came out of you will see a pin sticking out of the side of the hole
if its stuck in it will not alow the Governer to advance (which will not let the engine run up)
try moving the throttle shaft and see if the pin moves out? if so soak the hole with a penetrating lube and let it sit then push the pin is with a small screw driver then out with the throttle shaft and go in and out (gettin kinky) for a while to try and loosen it up
when the truck starts does it sound like it did when you started it before you did the mod? or does it sound sick like the idle is way down?

here is an OK pic of what Im talkin about
Item 4 is the pin that gets stuck in when you pull out items 6,8,and 9 (which are all together)
4 acts on 3 which acts on 12 which acts on 13
any way I think item 4 is stuck and will not alow the pump to inject enough fuel to run

Yep I agree, I think the guide pin is stuck. I'll try this tonight and see whats happens. Maniac and Orangevale Diesel seem to think I have a vacume problem???

the only thing a vacume leak will do is cause problems with your dash pots and power brakes

Thanks to the Maniac we go the CTD running last night. Looks like we had some air in the fuel lines and I think the Guide pin was stuck too. Got some good power out of the Diaphram adjustment. Now I am thinking of doing the Star Wheel adjustment???
Any thoughts oor experience on this modification??
Thanks All :D
