Getting a new roll cage built for the TJ. After it's complete what do you think the best finish would be?

thanks.

powder coating would be cool, but paint(rattle cans) works just fine and it's cheap...of course, if your just going to be cruzin' the mall, chrome it!:rasta:

Powder coating would be nice, but think about it - you are building the cage because you realize that you could roll. If you do roll - what's going to be the easiest thing to repair? HTH

Spray it with some good implement paint. It's cheap and way tough! The only down side is the colours are limited.

OK...so I am going to spray it. Now another question....should I just use some basic spray paint or something like Hammerite?

like someone already said, use the implement paint, its for stuff like tractors so its good stuff

I am going with a Hammertone becaue it is easy to fix and blend once you do scuff it on a rock.

What I did was paint to match my Jeep,
you might find a rattle can for this?
Then what I did was clear it with some chip guard.
Chip Guard or Rock Guard you can find this in a
rattle can also.
It will leave a nice textured finish that is durable,
and looks good!
Chip Guard is what they use for rocker panels
for rock protection

Plastic Coat works great too... UAP/NAPA sells em here in Canada for like $6 a can. T1 is Gloss black, T2 is flat.

I love the stuff...

What is implement paint?
What are it's benefits?
Purchase at a paint store, tractor store or a Home Depot?

Where do you find the chip guard or rock guard paint? Who makes it?

Is the implement stuff better than POR15 or are they totally different applications?

Chip-Rock guard can be found at most Automotive paint stores. (Body shop supply store)
You should be able to find it in a spray can (clear)

Yup, go to wal mart and get enough cans of your choice of color, only 89 cents each. My whole jeep - frame body and yes my rollbar is/will be wal-mart rattle cans. It is actually a really good paint.

Implement paint is heavy duty farm grade paint. It can be found at a "Fleet Farm" type store. Colours are limited to things like: Cat Yellow, Ford Blue, John Deer Green, Fire Engine Red, etc... I have found it to be very durable stuff.

I agree with the implement paint, I did my roll cage and a bumper with it and it holds up better than the cheap rattle can paint. I have a paint sprayer for my compressor so purchased a quart for $6. The cage and bumper used less than a third of that.

Got it from Big R, the local farm supply store.

Yup, the tractor or implement paint is sum tough stuff. I get mine from John Deere for 'bout $5 a can in the spray form. Quarts would be cheaper, but I don't have a spray gun yet. I imagine any tractor dealer has the paint.

I'd go rustoleum semi gloss. That way if you scrape one side down a tree and theres a truck show the next day (like that'll happen with this crowd), you can find a can of touch up paint anywhere
