to make this short i have two d44 and one was under a 84 1/2 ton k5 and the other was under a mid 70's 2500 chevy desiel. the desiel has 3.42's and the k5 has 3.73's and i have a d60 that has 3.73's in the rear. now the desiel had everything on it brakes go spindle barings and rotor and the k5 was missing some things so i just put the desiel under my cruiser thought that i would just swap gears. but it didn't work the pinion on the k5 is smaller than the desiel (it the shaft not the number of gears) and the axles on the k5 are bigger than the axles on the desiel. and on top of all that the actual housing on the desiel is bigger than the housing on the k5. can somone tell me what i need to do all i want is the same gears. am i so dumb that i think somthing a d44 and it is somthing else. please help me

P.S. there is 41 teeth on the ring gears are the same the k5 has 11 and the desiel has 12

well.. I'm no chevy guy...

but...

a 84' K-5 should have a 10 bolt, not a 44..
and chevy didn't put diesels into their trucks till around 82' or so...
