I have to get new tires for my DD sometime towrig. I have 265's on it right now and like the look of the extra size. Thinking about going up to 285 or even 305 any thoughts?
The truck is a '98 CTD 4x4 with #8 plate, restricted wastegate, & 4k GSP. I just had the auto tranny rebuilt with a suncoast triple lock TC. Like I said it is a daily driver and sometime tow rig.
What size & brand tire do you rec?

4X4 I take it.... Well then if you dont want to mess around with a lift or wider rims get the 285's. That's the max size you can go on your stock chrome wheels. If you had 16X8's you could go up to 305 but you might have rub issues. I run 285 as my drag tires. There perfect for racing, light weight and depending on your HP will be right on target for your top end. I run 315's on my rig but it has a leveling kit and aftermarket rims. But it sure looks cool.
Good Luck

Brand?
The Michelins seem to be the popular choice for towing and mileage, but not so good in the wet or on dirt/mud/gravel.\
Suggestions?

A 285/75/16 is rated for 3305 pounds as are most 285/75/16
I am going with the BFG at's next I will give a full report.

BFG AT's generally wear out faster than regular "light truck" type tires, and they're also a bit more expensive than the other LT tires out there.

Since its a tow rig I think I'm looking for an "E" rated tire.

Check the actual load rating in pounds versus just going off the letter designation. What letter rating a tire has is also dependent on the tire size.
Typically, an "D" rated 285/75R16 has an higher actual load capacity than say an "E" rated 245/75R16.

Bingo!
The E-rated A/T Ko is rated for 3042 pounds in 245/75/16 vs. 3305 pounds for the d-rated 285/75/16

Generally, E rated sidewalls are stiffer (built to take more pressure) and don't squirm as much as a D rated tire when towing. BFG is an exception due to three ply sidewall.
Toyo M55 just came out in an E rated 285/75R16, 3,750 lb load rating. I've ordered a set, but expect delivery to take another month or so...

I'm going with nitto terra grapplers this time in the LT295/75 R16 size. They are "e" rated, actual rating of 3415lbs.@65psi. I have a 98.5 CTD 4x4.
We just got them on one of our lot trucks, and they seem to be pretty sweet.
