Ok, saw this truck, but not sure if its worth the hassle or not.....I'm not really in the market for one of these trucks, but if I can get it at a good price I wouldn't mind having it.
'98 12valve CTD 4x4 SLT Laramie 212,000 miles
5speed
Club cab Long bed
Pwr Wind, Pwr Door locks, Pwr Mirrors, Cruise, etc...
It doesn't have a gooseneck hitch or apear to ever have had one, only reciever hitch.
Its got 305/75 Buckshot Mudders on stock wheels fairly worn.
Seems to run fine, and have good power, Drives fine...I couldn't feel any slop in the front end.
Now for the bad.....the body seems to be good with no dents ecxept for the driverside front fender which is smashed in. other than a scratch on the bottom of the hood nothing else appers to be damaged, also you can see where whatever hit it was hit above the lip of the wheelwell and pushed back from there, so I don't think anything else was hurt, fender did not get into the door which opens and closes fine. hood opnes and closes fine. The trim pieces on the bottom of the seats are gone, levers for the seat back adjustments are gone, grab handle on passenger side needs a screw and a trim piece, the antenna is broke clean off, and the factory cd player turns on, but you can't change the station, also one factory center cap is missing from a rear wheel.
As said the truck runs and drives great, appears to all stock, even still has the muffler.
They are asking $9650
What do yall think the truck might be worth, what kind of fuel milage do yall get from these trucks....not sure if its 3.54 or 4.10s, I'm betting 3.54s, but with the tires, I don't actually know the correct speed per rpms its doing.??
Thanks for any input,
Justin

I did, it gave me a price of $10k and change for my area and in "fair" (needing either mechanical or body/trim work and tires to be sold) but I've often found that KBB is unrealistic as far as actual selling price for this area....so just looking for more opinions.
thanks,

Is it a quad cab?
If so, it was only made for 6 months.
So they are a little hard to get, and sought after.
Has it had the KDP fixed yet?
If not you will want to look into that.
If you are not interested you could list this on the TDR site.
There is almost always some one looking for a 98 12V QC.

No, its not a quad cab, just standard extra cab or club cab....whatever you call it. I still havn't decided yet....I like the drivetrain, but I'm mixed when it comes to the truck wraped around the drivetrain. I don't know if its my hieght, or a faulty seat belt or what, but I had to slide it off my shoulder to just release the parking brake....as the seatbelt comes out of the seat and has to go up and over my shoulder, so I'm not sure if its the belt design or if the rathcet mechanism is locking??
Any other input?
Things to watch out for?
Thanks,
Justin

Sounds rough to me. Plus, I'd find out how long those big ass tires have been on there. May be looking at new rear end. The 5 speed isn't very strong either. See about the tranny nut and KDP have been done.
my seatbelt is a little screwey too - I think the mechanisms have some design issues.
98 12 valves dont have the KDP problem, they modified the front cover

I doubt he'll be looking at a new rear end, the big ass tires as you put it have next to no effect on the rear full floating axle. I got over 300k miles out of my D80 with 35's and pulling a GN in excess of 20k lbs all the time. The ring and pinion if not serviced right may give him some grief, but i doubt it, if anything he might check the outer wheel seals one of mine had developed a leak at 75k miles and later again at 250k miles.
What he will have to be alert to is the fact that offset wheels and/or large tires, 35's and up do tend to accelerate the failure of the sealed hub/wheel bearings that dodge used in the 94-2002 trucks. Nothing too drastic just something to be aware of.
The 5spd yes they do have a problem with OD nut coming off, but i wouldnt exactly call it weak either, when you compare it to the getrag or ZF 5spd also being used in that decade the NV4500 has provided a pretty reputable service life. at 200k miles if it hasnt been maintained, lube changed every 30-50k miles and if the guy pulled in OD all the time on steep grades you might need to listen to the tranny see if you hear any bearing noises, otherwise i wouldnt worry about it, about 1/2 of those trannys have had no problems running into the 200k mile+ club, and they do handle alot of HP and torque without issue, especially with a few minor upgrades that can be done at time of rebuild. 1 3/8 input and full splined output. there are ALOT of guiys that hotshot heavy loads with that tranny pushing 800+ ft/lbs through it and getting 150k-200k miles no problem out of the tranny so dont worry too much.
Basically you are buying a 200k mile truck, expect a few repairs to some drivetrain components, rear end R&P bearings are not a bad idea, but no need to jump the gun, also figure on servicing the tranny, check the magnet, if there isnt much metal flake on it, run the thing till it gives you trouble, then rebuild it right OR put an NV5600 in, but if you arent towing all the time the NV4500 is much better for speed shifting and all around driving. The wheel bearing up front probably are, if they havent been worked on, in need of replacement.
And the killer dowel pin KDP that everyone keeps mentioning, ask the guy about that and if he hasnt done it, contact piers diesel research and do it otherwise you'' end up like me back in 2001, 235,000 miles and a busted timing cover on the side of Highway 15 in Idaho in the wonderful month of January.
Ask when the clutch was last replaced, and what type that will give you an idea what to budget for in the future too. Otherwise sounds like a good truck, id probably look at it if it was a short bed.
i mean yes yours has the modified cover
So my delay in worrying about the KDP is justified? :p
