: Food for thought on steering stabilizers

We all know steering stabilizers go on the tie rod, but.....

Have you ever seen one on the draglink/steering rod? It would go from the draglink to the frame. Why I ask this is because on my IFS front that I had, there was a steering stabilizer that went from the frame to the equivilent of the steering rod on a solid axle. Wouldn't this help things like bump steer and death wobble? yeah you might have to muscle the wheel a little more but....?

I've had them on both, I just mount them where its most convenient/less smashable. As far as muscling the steering wheel, it shouldn't matter where you put them.

ummm why? it wouldn't help any more than having it on the tie rod, and you'd run into articulation problems. In most IFS setups i've seen the SS runs from the frame to the centerlink, which effectively replaces the tie rod and drag link. the center link doesn't flex up or down so the SS just gets pushed and pulled like its supposed to. On a solid axle the tie rod moves when the drag link does, but it doesn't articulate, which makes it the choice for mounting the SS to. mounting it to the drag link wouldn't solve anything and would create more problems.

On Jeeps, most of those aftermarket "double can" steering stabilizers do mount between the draglink (short tie rod, to be precise) and the passengers side frame rail.

We put a Skyjacker one on my buddy's YJ. It looked cool ( :rainbow: ) but it didn't really work all that well. It would squeak, clunk, and twist longitudinally as the steering was cycled back and forth. He got so sick of the racket, he eventually took it off...

Steeing stabilizer? Who needs it. I broke mine off last summer and I haven't replaced it yet and haven't missed it at all.

Ok all of these sound good.

I might try one for my setup. I'm sure it's pretty much a per application thing. It might work, it might just waste money. If it was mounted properly I don't see how it would affect articulation but.....
