Just curious, but where did you get the 25% stronger figure? CTM? I'm no metallurgist, but it seems to me that billet would be stronger than any cast, apples to apples...
Someone enlighten me...
Thanks,
Jake
gunracer1 01-31-2002, 01:23 PM casting and forging are two differt processes. forging uses heat and dies to align the grain structure.
morpheus 01-31-2002, 01:23 PM all I see is red X's no pictures ...

RoCkSkuLLz 01-31-2002, 01:24 PM Well Jack told me they were 25% stronger than the old billet style ones. So coming from the creator of the CTM U-joints I believe him. If you have any questions give him a call he's a very knowledgable and nice guy. CTM's # (949)487-0772
gunracer1 01-31-2002, 01:24 PM o yea no pics, just little white boxes with little red Xs
RoCkSkuLLz 01-31-2002, 01:28 PM Sorry here we go!

Chief yelling alot 01-31-2002, 02:56 PM So um how do they work? no rolers and no seal  and are they making them for a Dana 30
Gordon 01-31-2002, 03:06 PM I see the price on these coming down. He is gonna have to sell a lot of those to offset the cost of forging dies. I bet in 12-18 months those things will be under $90 a pop. I think in that price range he will sell a lot more.
In some applications forging can be much stronger than billet, but 300M barstock will have such a fine microstructure that I don't think there would be much if any differance.
H8monday 01-31-2002, 03:07 PM Nice!!
Its good to see the new forged units, getting out.
In no time at all, even the nightmares of changing out busted U joints on the trail will, begin to go away. I only have an occasional flashback anymore, but I can usually shake it off without running to my tool bag.
Do the new joints come with screw in grease fitting covers or snap in?

I havent tryed them out yet. I just got them in the mail today. I was planning on ordering some warn shafts through the mass buy post that was goin around but since that flaked out I just went ahead and ordered some Warn Alloy shafts today! Should see them next week hopefully. I'll post some pics and let you guys know how well they work. As for the Dana 30, These are a direct replacement for the 297x joints so I dont see why they wouldnt work in a Dana 30. Well atleast the 91' and newer axles that have 297x joints. And yea they do have the seals, they were in a different package with the clips and grease fittings. No rollers though, new design im assuming :D

They come with screw in fittings. what do yours have H8? Also do yours have rollers bearings because mine just have a copper looking smooth surface no bearing??
Bones 01-31-2002, 03:56 PM What do the CTM's run? I might be interested in some and some Warn or Moser axles, I just need to get my rig back together first.
RoCkSkuLLz 01-31-2002, 04:17 PM there $150.00 each. and lifetime warrantied :D

I have the old plastic snap in grease fitting caps. Jack had mentioned that the new caps had would have the screw in style, but I havent seen them. The old rease caps worked fine, if you were carefull not to break them when you removed them, but Jack wanted to improve the design.
I heard that the forged joints were supposed to be stronger also, but I know that the billets are already stronger than a Warn Locking Hub, because I just had a hub warrantied that I exploded at johnson valley a few weeks ago.
Dont worry about the caps, they have never had bearings. I dont think a cap could not made strong enough, if the space available was used to install bearings.
Po' riggity 02-02-2002, 03:40 AM I finally got to see these forged ones for myself tonight.. let me tell you, they are KILLER.. I seriously wanted to walk out with them tonight, but then Rockbuggy would have kicked my A$$ :) Looks good dude.. let me know when you plan on putting the warns in with the CTM's so we can go on a trial "break in" run :)

I really don't think Jack is having any problem selling them now. As a matter of fact he is selling them faster than he can make them.:smokin: Its a good product.

If you think they are gonna come down almost a 100% ,your on crack....... It aint happening, I just talked to Jack he has having no trouble selling at all, which is great for him he is making a great fucking product , he's a great knowledgable guy who will answer any question you got... For that kind of service and that kind of product...Proven product.... $150.00 is worth it although that is what I tell myself after I look at my bank account since I ordered them up yesterday... But really , I think its a small price to pay to have that kind of security when you got the big viscious meats on the 44... Just my .02...:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:
RoCkSkuLLz 02-02-2002, 03:33 PM YEa I have to agree the price is what its gonna be. I think there worth it! (from what ive heard :D havent installed mine yet) Im just hoping that Jack starts making driveshaft u-joint next :D for my 1310's
Kicker 02-02-2002, 05:44 PM Might just be me, but it looks like it isn't a very strong design, shape wise. They could have made it smoother, to reduce stress cracks from starting.
And forged 300M is stronger than bar stock. Only bad thing is the 300M wears out faster because of the hardness. But, that shouldn't be a concern for most people who are buying these for brute strength.
Hope you like them. Hopefully in the future they will change the center design more.

And here we have a perfect example of a dumb ass know it all who knows, yep you guessed it , nothing. Don't comment on something you know absolutely nothing about.
evilfij 02-02-2002, 06:11 PM U joint,
Hummmmm
whats that, oh wait the old rover has some of those.
$150 each, man thats cheap. ;)
Rover crap is 4 bills for break a day stock cv.
Close to twice that for cryoed, heat treated, and micro blued but they still go :nuke:
But the smooth surface is a good point, newbie .:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
With a lifetime warantee who cares.
Ron
notcrazyjustNuTz 02-02-2002, 07:06 PM :smokin: If they save me the time and cash of swapping out broken one's they will pay for themselves pretty quick and thus easily justify the price.
I'm a bit curious about the lack of a dust boot? what's the reasoning?

They have a rubber seal, they just arent shown in the picture.

That exactly the point, they will eliminate costly replacements of stub shafts, and axle shafts. They will eliminate, the annoying 20 minute beer breaks, every time you decide to take an agressive, turned wheel assault on a hard climb.
They also carry a lifetime warranty, I really cant see why anyone could complain about the price.
Either you need them or you dont.
The guys that need them will gladly pay the price.
Hell its worth it just so you can pick your choice of lines on a hard climb, instead of having to look at your spare parts invintory to decide whether or not you can "go steep", or "go around".
If someone doesnt think they are worth the price, then they probbably arent to the point where they really need them.
RoCkSkuLLz 02-02-2002, 10:38 PM Like H8 said they do have dust covers I just didnt include them in the photos above. There rubber seals like on the orginal models.
badassjeepguy 02-03-2002, 07:38 AM mine are billet, and have the screw in grease fitting...... im sure people will complain bout the price but i think with the way he is backing them... its well worth the $$$$ there is on o ring that when you grease will push all old and infected grease out and replace with new....
imho there worth every penny!
Kicker 02-03-2002, 09:52 AM Brawler- Thnanks for input on what you think I know or do not know. I'm sorry my opinion is different than yours. Considering I deal with 300M and driveline parts everyday, I think I have a good idea on the strength and design of it.
And when I made the original post, I missed thee part about lifetime warranty.
See ya!!

BAJG,
Im sure that everyone you wheel with will think they are well worth money also..... But youll probably have to figure what trail to do the second half of the morning, with trail repair time normally allotted for your repairs. :flipoff2:
badassjeepguy 02-03-2002, 09:48 PM lol, well ill still be waiting for there repairs... :D im sure it wont be long till a few of them are runnin em too....
Yes, we will be glad BAJG bought them..
:D Now we can spend the same amount of time towing someone else.... :D
85 rocrnr 02-04-2002, 09:35 AM how much did they cost:confused:
