Question and opinions on axle width....

How wide is a FJ-40 front, from where the wheel bolts on?

How wide is a FJ-40 rear axle, from where the wheel bolts on?

How wide is a Full Size 6-bolt D44 from a 1980's is chevy pickup?

How wide is a Full Size 6-bolt Rear (10/12, not sure) from a chevy Pickup?

Reason I am asking is that the cruiser is going through a major revamp in the next month. I already have lockers in the front and rear of the fj-40 axles that I have now (which are currently under the truck. I got a Full size 6-bolt d44 and rear axle from a 80's 4x4 chevy. Which are open, but I can lincon rod the rear, but a locker is gonna be $$$. (one of those cheap as possible projects)

Is there any way to get the cruiser stance to be as wide as a full size axle, or close? About the only way I think I can do this would be getting a different backspace on the wheels.

D44 and FJ-40 axles are pretty close in strength, correct? I would rather wait for a D60 to come along.

full width 44 fronts are usually 67inchs, cruiser fronts are around 58. the rear chevy full widths are 65 usually. id wait and put a 60 in the rear, youll end up kicking yourself if you dont in the long run depending on how u use your rig, i have full size stuff in mine and to be honest i wish i had money to cut them down to 63 but for now it will go wide style and stomp a hole in everyone sbehinds! jimMy

I think Cruiser axles are more like 55" wide. Make sure your front axle is a D44 and not a 10 bolt. They started to introduce the 10 bolts in 78

Slept on it last nite. I am keeping the crusier axles until I can locate a d60. Heck, I already have front/rear lockers. Low budget project (at least for now on paper). Thanks.

When I had my D60 HD44 cut to fit my FJ40, I had it cut 6" wider 3" on both sides wider than stock. WOW it looks sweet handles the road like a porshe, maybe not as extreme. But alot nicer than stock. I can still wheel in those tight spots and handle the road better as well as keeping old smokey off my ass, for being fullsize.
deffinitly wait till D60. That 12 bolt krap I'ed hate to see even a jeep run those. If you,re looking for a cheap traction device for the d44. I would sell you the trac loc I've got for $50.It's for a 5.89 ring gear.
